2  Re: Mug Rug Rd5 Swap - SO April 29th in The Swap Gallery by whenindoubtsew on: May 13, 2013 02:09:32 AM
Beautiful mugrugs - the bug is beautiful, love the fabrics you chose cmarion3and variegated thread. And love those hexagons Jennifer

I received the second of my amazing mug-rugs from Isaacmom01!! Look at this incredible dinosaur mug-rug with a twist of literature Cheesy

This is the front with a TRex (rawr) and a neat pile of books (as I read voraciously)

The inspiration from the back is taken from one of my all time favourite quote "I myself am entirely made of flaws, stitched together with good intentions" Augusten Burroughs - the different denims rusticly stitched together.

And here is a close-up of the books!!

Thanks so much Isaacmom - it is so cool - I love it - thanks for being an awesome swap partner  Cheesy

Love it all ConTexty - especially the Tinies box and stripey pegs  Cheesy

And prepare to be amazed everyone as I received a superbly spectacular package from Craftsunderground. I loved opening every lovingly wrapped parcel in the box and was totally in awe of Crafts mad skills!!

First is an incredible embroidery hoop - N is for Neville is my favourite Gashlycrumb letter "ennui" fascinates me as a word. It is perfect. Look at poor Neville's face peering over the window ledge  Shocked

Next - a quartet of divinely vintage necklaces including a spot on thimble pincushion that I had pinned and a Gorey-esque picture of a lady sewing with corresponding sewing machine image on the back. And a altered pendant using found metalwork  Grin I will be wearing these all the time!!

When Crafts asked me my head size I secretly hoped for a cool hat and did she deliver. It is a beautiful black and silver fabric, cloche/vintage style and has a rockin' fabric flower with an additional button clip I can add or use separately as a brooch. It reminds me of the pictures of Gorey's Victorian ladies and their fancy headgear!! There is also a red fabric flower comb - you have no idea Crafts how often these will get worn - they are great!

And some awesome extras - photo/note holder made out of a vintage spool and ribbon/buttons, a hat pin, and lots of great vintagey supplies - it is so hard to get this stuff easily where I live and I did a little jig of excitement when I saw them - my problem will be narrowing down the million ideas I have for them - let me just say 'gibbous-inspired' has been googled alot lately and lots of stuff pinned to my Pinterest boards  Grin

Thank so much Crafts - I have loved swapping with you and love, love, love everything you made me!

Here are some photo updates for Riki:

Last weekend we attended the Bellinger Agricultural show (about an hour drive from home) and this is Riki sitting in the grandstand watching the dressage horses in the distance. We also checked out some local arts and crafts, a kelpie working dog demonstration, crocodiles and snakes with the reptile man and the 'chook' (chicken) display.

Then this weekend we went to the Rotary Book Fair. I had to leave after about an hour or otherwise I would have not been able to carry out all the books I found. Here is a picture of the ones I did buy. It goes all week and if you go in the last couple of days you can fill a bag with whatever is leftover for about $5AU. I found 1-2 things for Riki to take home as well!! PS I found a Patrick Rothfuss Anofeles  Cheesy

More on the blog - hope everyone is looking forward to fun weekends (especially you Anofeles - studying for your exams  Shocked)

I have permission to post what I sent to Craftsunderground - I am hoping she is OK and just really busy.

I had the best time researching and crafting for this swap - I moved out of my comfort zone on a few things.

First is a Gorey bag - Crafts had pinned she liked the one I made in another swap - which is great because I knew it was acheivable  Cheesy It's a pattern I purchased from Sew-phistocats on Etsy and glad I have gotten good use out of it  Smiley I printed the text from Gashlycrumb Tinies for the side pockets and a picture that took my fancy of Edwardian people standing around at a party for the main zippered pockets!! I got most of the way through sewing and realised I hadn't put in one bit of lining - so a vast amount of unpicking and resewing later it turned out OK!

Next I stalked Crafts pinterest and came up with some ideas - there was a medal like brooch on which I put a Gorey cat image, a pair of earrings with a cat lying on books (hard to see  Undecided) and an Gorey-inspired altered key necklace.

The one I was worried about the most is this altered canvas - after much touching up here and there and debates with myself about sending it - I did anyway!! It measures about 5cm x 7cm on it's own stand.

And last - a vintage cuff with printed Gorey images and Gorey's pseudonyms

I hope it has arrived alright and Crafts likes it  Cheesy

Dobrou chuť!

How good does that look  Cheesy Holidays are all about indulgence!!

Wildfyre - those yarns are gorgeous

We made a trip to a place called Yamba where my in-laws live. We had spectacular weather. It was the ANZAC day long weekend  - a commemoration of our soldiers.
