1  BATH AND BEAUTY / Bath and Beauty: Discussion and Questions / discolouration on: September 24, 2010 05:00:28 AM
Early this week I made some MP shaving soap using Frosted Cupcake FO which according to the suppliers website will discolour... I coloured it pink with some carmine and its still very pink, will it change colour? How long does it usually take for the vanillin to make MP go brownish? Not that Im unhappy that its a beautiful girly pink I'm just confused that its not a brownish pink!

This was a swirl fluke... but maybe its the face of the soap god?

I love him!
3  BATH AND BEAUTY / Bath and Beauty: Completed Projects / "Rainbow ice cream" swirl soap and a few others on: July 31, 2010 04:13:12 PM
Heres just a few recent soaps that I made! The first one is inspired by my favourite rainbow ice cream, I used the same colours as the ice cream. Im not sure why the yellow looks a little bit like cracked earth? Its scented with Love Spell.

Lime coconut soap, its the first time I did layers and the green mica ontop is a little bit of a fail... I guess I could just wipe it off.

Oatmeal milk and honey with some added oatmeal. Its got yummy shea butter in it!

And finally awesome musk lolly flavoured striped lipbalm that I made with my bff! Smells delicious! Just like the real thing!

4  BATH AND BEAUTY / Bath and Beauty: Discussion and Questions / Questions about beer soap on: July 23, 2010 12:31:01 AM
I made CP beer soap the other night using homebrew pale ale from a friend cos I thought that it would be really awesome to make handmade soaps with handmade beer. While I was mixing the lye with the beer I found the smell super offensive and I can still smell that in the soap behind the smell of lime EO. How much beer are you suppose to smell in the soap? Does it go away with time?

Does anyone have any tips for making successful beer soap?

Another question that I have regarding soap but not beer soap- how do you get pretty sparkly tops with mica? I attempted to brush some on a log before cutting with a paint brush but it didnt look graceful and then I rubbed at it with my fingers and it still doesnt look graceful!
5  BATH AND BEAUTY / Bath and Beauty: Completed Projects / First time swirling and adjustable wooden soap mold on: June 08, 2010 12:37:01 AM
Hello all... Im pleased to present my second ever cp soap batch and first time swirl attempt! I think it went pretty well! Despite not checking if the cup I measured the lye in was totally dry and therefore its probably more superfatted than I intended...

My bf also made me a wooden log soap mold that is adjustable, so it can make up to 1.5kgs or 54 ounces of soap... I thought that was pretty nifty of him so I thought I would share that too.

I scented with lime EO

Heres the mold, the block that goes in as the end of the mold is held on by a 2 inch clamp and as you can see from the success of the above batch - it works! Oh and I used baking paper as freezer paper isnt sold here and that seemed to be suitable too.

I just had to include this pic of him sanding it down (cos I think he looks cute) hehe
6  CROCHET / Projects from The Happy Hooker by Debbie Stoller / In bloom with sleepy bear on: May 10, 2010 12:49:37 AM
I made a bear instead of a flower... I think it looks a little bit like a koala but that wasn't intentional! I used an acrylic yarn from Lincraft thats called "surprise yarn" in blues/browns. I love this yarn the colours are awesome! Its pretty soft too.

The photo was taken after I handwashed it. I lined it dodgedly with blue fabric... need to work on sewing skills! Oh and photo skills.. but lets just pretend this was intentional and arty Cheesy

7  BATH AND BEAUTY / Bath and Beauty: Completed Projects / Massage bars and lip balm fun on: April 30, 2010 06:10:10 AM
Kinda went on a crafting spree... thought I would share!

Spelling (kind of) with bath and beauty goodies! Oh and my current (and first!) knitting project as a back ground.

The tiny tube is my a little too shamrock green mint lip balm and the big one is caramel olive & shea lip balm... Im proud of that one I think the colour is pretty caramely and I poured that particular one perfectly! Yay!

These are massage bars setting up.. I just love they way they look! The heart in the middle of the top photo is how they look now. My bf doesnt think they are oily enough for his particular massaging tastes but I actually really like it and it makes my skin feel nice and soft! Its lightly scented with coconut FO, mostly smells of beeswax!

Oh and that soap up in the first photo is just summer melon scented shea MP I made for mothers day.
8  HOME SWEET HOME / Crafty Housewares: Completed Projects: General / Bag-bags - a cute place to keep plastic grocery bags on: March 05, 2010 10:18:00 PM
G'day home crafty folks! Recently I have made some "bag bags" well so far just 2, but I plan on making a blue one to go with my Aunty's new blueish home. I dunno about other places but in Australia if you forget to bring your "green bags" to the shops (which I do frequently grr) you end up with a bunch of plastic bags which I like to use as garbage bags. I hated stuffing the plastic bags into a cupboard it looks so messy! My mum has a cute old Little Mermaid bag bag she got ages and ages ago somewhere and really they are very simple to make. Im pretty new at sewing so any wonkyness would be because of that... Oh and Im using a camera phone, Im getting a proper camera for my birthday this month... cant wait!

They are basically a rectangle of material sewn into a tube with elastic on the bottom end and 2 button holes, cord and a toggle on the top end.

I made this pink one for a friend's housewarming, sadly she hasnt been using it.... said she doesnt have anywhere to hang it... Maybe the colour was a bit much for her but I love it, polka dots rock! Theres no bags in it so it looks a bit skinny

Top end

White one for myself... before cord and toggle. It did pucker a little up the top when I sewed it but I was lazy and figured that it was going to gather when I put the cord in it anyways!

9  BATH AND BEAUTY / Bath and Beauty: Discussion and Questions / Sweating embeddables on: February 12, 2010 06:10:11 PM
I made some tiny love hearts that I was/am planning on embedding in a block of soap and I over heated the soap (its MP) and now they are all sweaty just like me (damn australian summers) I havent tried embedding anything yet... will using the sweaty soap ruin it? Will it work at all?
10  BATH AND BEAUTY / Bath and Beauty: Completed Projects / Soap just for shaving! on: February 05, 2010 05:31:58 AM
For my legs I swear! (I have a twisted family... dont ask) I made this soap cos I ran out of shaving cream and I researched shaving soap and figured that I had the ingredients to make it! So its coconut MP with kaolin clay, jojoba oil and scented with ginger souffle. The ginger souffle doesnt smell as coca colaish in this soap, so I figure in the sugar scrubs the sugar contributed to the smell.

Usually I find after I shave my legs they get reallly really itchy and I have to moisture straight away... well this soap is awesome! Im never using anything but this soap! It doesnt make my legs itch at all and it makes my skin fairly soft. It lathers wonderfully too.

The clay coloured it a bit but I did put some bronze mica in it and the mica didnt mix in very well, what didnt mix in sunk to the bottom. I admit it looks kinda pretty but it looked a little like I was putting fake tan on when I used it... obviously it just washed off so no biggy.
