1  SEWING IN GENERAL / Sewing in General: Discussion and Questions / Fabric treatment question. on: August 18, 2009 12:56:34 PM
Hello! So I had the worst experience the other night.  I was working on a portfolio, and went to iron out the creases of some (precut) fabric I was working with.  As soon as I put the iron to the fabric, it automatically started shrinking!

So I know I need to wash this to make it the real size? But I'm not sure at what settings to do it at.  Hot wash? Tumble dry?  Please help!
2  PURSES, BAGS, WALLETS / Purses, Bags, Wallets: Completed Projects: General / Ladybug matching Purse and Cell Phone Holder (5 photos) on: August 11, 2009 09:48:16 PM
So about two weeks ago my Stepmother asks me to make her a purse and this is what I came up with!  Actually, the first thing she needed was a cell phone holder she could clip onto her pants for work because all of the ones she ordered were the wrong size!

Sorry if these photos don't turn up well, my photo taking skills could use some work.

This is the cell phone holder:

Here it is open (the lining is an aqua-ish color):

Here it is laid flat:

Here is the purse (tried rotating, apparently it didn't work):

And here is a close up of the adorable ladybug fabric I used:

Everything was hand sewn, so that's why it looks a little rough, and the cell phone holder closes with a snap and some magnets.

C&C welcome!   Smiley
3  ORGANIZED CRAFT SWAPS / New Swap Theme Ideas / Nancy Drew swap? on: July 30, 2009 03:12:11 PM
Would anyone be interested in a Nancy Drew swap? It could be based off of stuff from the games and the books...though I think I might be one of the few people above 15ish that actually plays the games.

I obviously wouldn't be able to organize, and it could be broadened to include other detective characters as well!
4  UNITED STATES / South Carolina / Anyone in York County? on: July 24, 2009 08:40:15 PM
I know that there is a thread for Upstate, but sometimes that just means the Greenville area.

I would love to find other craftsters in York, Clover, Fort Mill, Rock Hill, etc.
5  MISCELLANEOUS TOPICS / Completed Projects / German Paper Carousel (6 pics) on: July 20, 2009 07:02:48 PM
Hello everyone! This is my first craft post, and I'm so excited!  I figured this would go in Misc. because it's not really a paper craft since it came already pre-done in the box.  If I'm not allowed to post something from a kit, please tell me so I don't make the same mistake twice! Smiley

So while on vacation in Germany, I stumbled upon this paper carousel that I thought would be wonderful for my stepmother!  I did not know what I was getting into.

4 weeks later, I open the box and get to craftin'.  Now to shed some light, this carousel is a whopping 900 pieces, all paper!  The directions were all in either German or French, so I pretty much had some "craft by looking at the pictures" moments.  I'm sad that I didn't take WIP photos, because some of it looked pretty intimidating.

The finished product!

P.S. This carousel actually works! There is a hand crank that makes the body move, and there is a sound system that plays some traditional carousel music! All in all, this craft took me about a week and a half because some of the parts needed to dry overnight. Lots of glue involved, so much that my hands smelled like it for about 3 days afterwards.

Comments and Criticisms are appreciated and welcomed Smiley
Thanks for looking! Smiley
6  NEWS AND DISCUSSION ABOUT CRAFTSTER / Introduce Yourself / Greetings! on: July 02, 2009 12:52:38 PM
Hello!

I'm Becca and I just absolutely love doing crafts.  Being a college student seems to collide with this though, time and money-wise.  Last semester, I learned how to quilt and have really taken to it.  Wonderful, cost-effective gifts come out of that craft haha.  I also enjoy scrapbooking, paper crafts, and just overall sewing as well.  I currently don't have a sewing machine, so I'm perfecting my hand sewing skills.

My main project right now is a paper carousel that I found in Germany during my recent vacation there.  This thing is amazing! 900 pieces, and in the end, it'll actually work! I'll be so stoked when I'm finished!

I'm so excited to be on this site and share everything with the wonderful people here!
