1  UNITED STATES / Virginia / Fabric "Swap Meet"? on: August 12, 2009 02:57:05 PM
I would like to arrange for a get together.  Bring your 'unwanted' fabric (trims, notions, etc), and exchange - swap - trade with other craftsters for fabric that you DO want.  Anyone interested?  I know I have quite a bit of fabric that I am not using, that I will NEVER use, that is just in the way.  It WILL, of course, be clean and fresh smelling before being traded - not much worse than stinky, cob-webby (buggy) fabric...

Please let me know if anyone is interested in doing this.  I even have a couple of canopies that will protect us from sun/rain...

Next week sounds good to me as well.  And perhaps by then, we might even have another person or two interested as well.  We can use the whichcraft email to communicate what we will be bringing with us for snacks, etc - sound reasonable?  Possibly, in the future, we might even consider rotating where we meet.  I wouldn't be adverse to host(ess)ing on occasion, then there isn't too much of a burden on anyone. Wink

I LOVE the email!!  That is perfect!  And yes, that sounds good to me.  When would you want to start?

I'm definitely interested!  Let me know if you get much of a response?  Also, what types of crafters that are interested...  I mean, a bunch of knitters aren't necessarily going to want to sit around talking to a bunch of machine embroiderers, and vice versa - are they?  I'm interested in all of it, because I want to learn to knit, I do machine embroidery, I sew, etc.   Cheesy
5  UNITED STATES / Virginia / Craft Shows/Fairs on: July 01, 2009 08:01:49 AM
Does anyone know how to find out about craft shows in advance?  I'd like to start selling at some of the craft shows, but don't know HOW.  I've found a couple of online "listing services" that are bullsh**.  They insist you join before you can see a list of shows, then you have to pay money to get any information - and then the information is second hand or worse - and most of it is no good.  So you are paying them for gossip/hearsay/speculation.  I know there has to be a network for craft shows - some way that crafters find out about them in order to vend...  But HOW?

Since I'm just getting started in this area, I'm not interested in high fee, juried type fairs/shows - but I would like to be able to get my feet wet, and maybe network with other vendors, and get some ideas.

Anyone know how to go about doing this? Huh

I am also in the C'ville area - have been for over 15 years now.  I'm not as young as most of you, and I don't knit, crochet a little - mostly I sew.  I sew a LOT.  Would LOVE to be able to get together with others in the area who share a common disease (that is what my hubby calls it, my addiction [grin]), and see who has the biggest 'stash'!!  Maybe swap fabric and ideas?  I'm open to meet, have coffee/tea, etc.  Feel free to email me if interested.  Oh yeah, I'm also into historical re-enacting.  So, if you like that sort of thing...
