1  Watermelon Pouch in Purses, Bags, Wallets: Completed Projects: General by yellstella on: August 29, 2009 02:09:59 PM
Similar to the Taco Pouch, but a watermelon! Yum!
It's felt and unlined and has a zipper. About 8in x 5 in.
Sorry about the picture quality, I usually borrow my brother's digital camera, but since going to school, all I have is a cheap, $30 digital camera. I honestly didn't think there'd be that big of a difference. Oh well. Enjoy!

Thanks for looking! Comments/ criticism welcome.

2  Rubik's Cube Wristlet in Purses, Bags, Wallets: Completed Projects: General by yellstella on: August 17, 2009 04:45:38 PM
So after making the dice wristlet, I decided to make a Rubik's cube one.
It is 4in x 4in x 4in with a metal zipper I took out of an old pair of jeans. It's made of felt and the strap is cotton.
The handsewing is so tedious! I handsewed the little squares on at the corners, and it took me forever. Just the yellow side took an entire viewing/ listening of "Titanic" to finish. I guess I'm just a really really slow handsewer. Oh well.
It's made to look like a solved Rubik's cube. The side with the zipper is blue, but it looks kind of greenish in some of the pictures.
I wish I could solve a real Rubik's cube!

On the grass.

On my hand.

In a tree.

Thanks for taking a look! Comments and criticism welcome!

3  Upcycled Gift Card Bag (3 imgs) in Purses, Bags, Wallets: Completed Projects: Reconstructed by yellstella on: August 11, 2009 10:46:34 AM
So I used to work at this toy store (it should be obvious which one), and I always thought the gift cards were really cute and that it was a shame that we would just throw them away. So for a few weeks I just saved a bunch of empty ones that were just being thrown away.
I've had this idea in my head for a few months, and I finally started it about a month ago.
Basically, I punched holes in the gift cards and then bound them together with some ribbon. I then made a lining and attached it to the cards with ribbon, too. The lining is removable for washing. I remember seeing a belt kind of like this years ago in a magazine. It was made our of bus passes I think, so I suppose that inspired me. I still have some gift cards left, so I think I'm going to make a smaller version at some point.
I don't think I've ever seen anything quite like it, so I'm very proud. The hole punching through thick plastic hurt, though.

Hanging.

At an angle.

Lining and pockets.

4  I Love Coffee; I Love Tea. Tote Bag! (3 imgs) in Purses, Bags, Wallets: Completed Projects: General by yellstella on: August 07, 2009 12:26:43 PM
I found about 3 yards of this cotton fabric in one of my piles of fabric a couple of months ago, and I've been trying to get rid of it. So I made a bag out of it, and I am planning on making a skirt with the rest of it. The funny thing is I don't even like coffee, and I only drink tea occassionally. Oh well, I still think it's cute, and tote bags are so fun to make!

Kind of up close.

Front. Boo wrinkles.

Pockets. The lining is unbleached muslin.

Thanks for checking it out!

5  Dice Wristlet (3 imgs) in Purses, Bags, Wallets: Completed Projects: General by yellstella on: August 04, 2009 03:34:57 PM
I made this this weekend. It's made out of felt and bias tape and has a zipper. I made sure the sides were all the same as on an actual die. I think it would be cute to go as Lady Luck for Halloween or go to Vegas and use this as an accessory.

On some planks of wood.

On my hand.

Open.

Thanks for taking a look!

Thank you for all of the lovely comments. If you make one (for personal or gift purposes only), please post. I'd love to see them!

6  Taco Tuesday Pouch in Purses, Bags, Wallets: Completed Projects: General by yellstella on: July 22, 2009 11:31:00 AM
So back at school, we have this amazing thing called Taco Tuesday, where every Tuesday night from 8-midnight they serve delicious tacos at one of the dining halls. My friends and I would go every Tuesday night, and often make pigs of ourselves, but it was ok because that's what Taco Tuesdays are for. Now it's summer and I haven't seen many of my college friends, but I decided to make one of them a felt Taco Tuesday pouch for her birthday
It's really simple, basically a yellow circle (the  shell) and brown rectangle (meat/beans) sewn together with a sewing machine.
The toppings are cheese (orange/yellow), tomatoes (red half circles), and lettuce (green) and were all handsewn on.
I plan on sewing on the word "Tuesday" out of felt towards the bottom, but I'm slow at handsewing and couldn't wait to post this.
Oh, and this was where I got the idea:  http://www.modcloth.com/store/ModCloth/Womens/Accessories/Bags/Nacho+Wallet
I saw theirs and decided it would be easy enough to make, and it was!
The top- lettuce, zipper, and cheese.

The side- shell and toppings

Yummy toppings! Lettuce, tomato, cheese

7  Plastic Animal Figurine Picture Frame in Crafty Housewares: Completed Projects: Reconstructed by yellstella on: July 22, 2009 10:31:27 AM
This was a fun, quick, and very simple craft to make a picture frame a bit cuter.
There's no before picture, but the frame was one of those plain wooden frames you find at a craft store.
I just painted a couple of coats of red paint on an old picture frame, and then glue gunned some old, plastic figurines I found in the basement on. Super easy and quick! I'm giving this to a friend who has an internship at a zoo!

Taken outside on a very convenient, flat rock.
