1  Granny Square Blanket from Granny (new pic added) in Crochet: Completed Projects by CrochetDad on: September 20, 2010 05:08:41 PM
The yarn for this blanket came from my mother-in-law, who passed away 2 years ago. My father-in-law ran across her stash of cotton yarn earlier this year and asked if I'd like to have it. Coincidentally, my daughter was expecting a baby this year and asked if I could make a blanket with the yarn from "Grandma". I chose to make the blanket with granny squares because of the varied choices of colors. Join using the "join as you go" method. The border is two rows of single crochet followed by a row of *sc, 2dc in same stitch, skip two stitches, repeat from *

I got my father-in-law to model with the new blanket...

I just HAD to make another one of these.  Such fun!

The first one (blue) has the eyes sewn in and a black nose.  The new one (pink) has safety eyes and a purple nose.

5  New Hat for Granddaughter in Crochet: Completed Projects by CrochetDad on: March 31, 2010 06:53:45 PM
My granddaughter asked if I could make her a hat!  I was thrilled, of course.  She wanted yellow, so I added a purple band since I'm a Los Angeles Lakers (basketball) fan.

I used Caron worsted yellow the One Pound skein and a G hook.  By the smile, I think she likes it!

These were quick and fun to do.

8  Sea Turtle - link to free pattern in Amigurumi: Completed Projects by CrochetDad on: February 26, 2010 08:13:59 AM
I've been collecting amigurumi patterns and decided it was time to do another one for my granddaughter. This one is Jacques the Sea Turtle (free pattern here).

I had a lot of fun making this one, because I'd only work on it when my granddaughter was here. She saw the whole process, but she's only 3 years old, so she was a little impatient. The moment I gave it to her, her face lit up with a big smile and seemed to make all the waiting worth it.

9  Fedora with crochet thread in Crochet: Completed Projects by CrochetDad on: February 24, 2010 03:23:46 PM
I wondered what it would be like to crochet a hat out of thread.

I didn't want it to be floppy, and I also wanted a brim.  Here's my result using a G hook and 5 strands of #10 crochet thread in red, orange, pale blue, purple, and yellow:

No stiffeners, wires or supporting devices of any kind, I just steam-blocked the brim.

I have been playing around with the idea of creating a fedora-style hat in crochet and here is the result.

Thanks for looking!
