4  KNITTING / Knitting: Discussion and Questions / Re: Knitting terms, welcome for the non-knitters on: January 25, 2005 06:12:50 PM
Good idea! Sometimes all of the abbreviations can be a little overwhelming. Here's a really long list of knitting abbreviations and their definitions: http://www.yarnstandards.com/knit.html

Oh, and there are these, too:

WIP = work in progress
UFO = unfinished object
LYS = local yarn store/shop

Thank you sooooooo much! I bought the book and I was clueless as to what the instructions were telling me to do.

9  California / California: South / Re: Fabric Shopping in L.A.'s Fashion District: Advice? on: December 18, 2004 02:07:11 PM
Definitely go to Michael Levines.  It's on Maple st. (I think at around 8th or 9th).  You can't haggle like you can at the smaller stores but they are so awesome.  I've found that most of the stores are open to the public.  No one's ever turned away my money!  Be aware that not all stores take credit cards.
Yay! Thanks Smiley  I actually live in Los Angeles, are there any other stores you recommend?
