1  Skull Pumpkin in Halloween Decor and Parties by lotus01 on: October 28, 2010 07:02:00 PM
This is my Dia De Los Muertos inspired pumpkin. I looked at multiple pictures of skull templates for crafts, masks, etc.  then drew my own template inspired by what I had seen. Happy Halloween!

2  Catrina in Halloween Costumes by lotus01 on: October 27, 2010 10:16:21 AM
This is my project for Dia De Los Muertos this year. She is my 6 foot tall paper mache skeleton. I used newspaper/ paper mache to make her body and used Kilz primer/interior house paint to paint her. I was inspired by the art of Jos Guadalupe Posada and the art of the Linares Family.

Thank you for looking!

3  Ofrenda for Dia de los Muertos in Crafty Housewares: Completed Projects: General by lotus01 on: October 20, 2009 06:42:43 PM
Hello All... this is my first time sharing a completed project on craftster! I'm not sure if it was more appropriate to share it in the holiday forum but there was no section for Dia de los Muertos Sad This was a joint project between my husband and I. Billie Holiday was the inspiration for this particular alter although most commonly alters are made to commemorate loved ones that have past. I made the calaca (skeleton) using a cheap plastic Halloween skull and a wood dowel for her backbone. I then built her up with paper mache. My husband built the alter from pieces of our old fence. I made crepe paper marigolds and then added a vase with fresh picked marigolds from our garden.  I found a lot of good information on this  website about building ofrendas in your home as well as the history of the holiday http://mexicansugarskull.com/index.html The Mexican Day of the Dead by Chloe Sayer was also a good resource. I hope you enjoy! Feel free to comment
