21  CLOTHING / Shoes: Discussion and Questions / Re: Ideas for modifying Boots & Slippers? on: December 30, 2011 09:26:22 PM
I think it would be neat on the boots if you added grommets and laces!  Don't even have to start from the bottom, just from around where the zipper gets too tight.
Maybe for the slippers you could separate the top part from the sole somehow?  Then you might be able to attach some fabric or ribbon or lace or something.  Or at least repurpose the crocheted bit to recon another pair of shoes?

What are fat quarters?

Quarter yard pieces of cotton fabric you can get at fabric/craft stores for quilting or small projects.  They're great cause they're only a buck or two so you can pick up a ton of different prints for pretty cheap Smiley

Me too!  I had picked up completely different fabric for her but when I found the cherries I put it all back and chose an all new scheme around it instead Smiley

I have to ask:  is their last name Joy?    (I am Margaret Joy)

Wish it was!  It's not - it's my parents' mailbox, and my mother never changed her name, so names were out!  And the house number was already on the post part of the mailbox, so we just decided on a word Smiley

Thanks for the compliments!!

Thanks everybody for the feedback!!  Glad you like it Smiley

I love the swirly flowers on it. Did you seal the paint with something? I might have to paint my plain boring black mailbox.

I sealed it with a UV resistant matte finish.  The paint itself is acrylic and seemed pretty permanent (got more than a little rained on while I was working, actually) especially since it was practically baking out in the sun, and since I primed it first it isn't prone to scratching off.  Still added several layers of the finish anyways.  I have no idea if it will protect it from anything other than fading...we didn't really know what to use.

Not sure if this is in the right board so just move it on out if it's not Wink

I've been asking to paint the mailbox at my parents' house since about middle school, and my mother finally finally not only let me, but actually requested it Cheesy  Took all day standing out in the sun, but I'm super happy with it and so is she!  C&C weclome of course Smiley
