1  "Discount!" Flo costume in Halloween Costumes by Katesters on: November 05, 2011 06:51:53 AM

For Halloween this year, I decided to be everyone's favorite Diva of Discounts: Flo from the Progressive insurance commercials!

I was going to buy a simple white apron but the craft stores here were constantly sold out, so I ended up buying fabric and making my own.  Hand-wrote the Progressive logo on it and colored it in with a fabric marker.

It was such a hit! I wore it to school and all the kids recognized me (except maybe Kindergarteners!).

Here's one a little closer so you can see the lettering on the apron, name tag, and I <3 Insurance button! Smiley

3  Re: Crafters Apron Swap Gallery! in The Swap Gallery by Katesters on: September 26, 2011 08:18:10 PM
So happy! Just got my package from ScrappySue, all the way from Australia!  It's truly owl-rific!

First, something for the birds.  Wink

Open it up, and...

It's a needlebook! So cute!

Also, this adorable little stuffie! She's too cute to be a pincushion!

And the apron... drum roll please...

With little owlies here and there! Love it!

Action shot!

Thank you soooo much, ScrappySue! You're the best angel a girl could ask for!

Here's the apron I've sent to plumbucket.  Hope she has received, and likes what I've made!

I made a couple of needle pockets for when she knits or crochets.

Action shot! These really are quite flattering.  Kiss

And here is a crummy picture of the bracelet I made.  Color is a bit off.   Undecided

5  skull purse in Purses, Bags, Wallets: Completed Projects: General by Katesters on: December 22, 2010 08:29:35 AM
My cousin loves skulls, tattoos, etc. so when I saw Badbird's free "death head" pattern, I knew I had to make something for my cousin.  She also has a slight obsession with handbags, so I decided on a purse.  Can't wait to give it to her for Christmas!

The embroidery: I used a variegated floss on the wings, but it's hard to see.

The bag: based on a pattern out of The Best of Sew Simple Magazine (it's actually the bag on the cover!)

The lining: I love.  The handles cost a pretty penny, but I love them too.

And a little change purse/phone/ciggy holder with an M for Melissa:

6  Jane Austen dress in Costumes: Completed Projects by Katesters on: December 20, 2010 10:18:07 AM
Through my public library, I attended a 12-session (6 month) lecture series on Jane Austen.  Each month featured a different book, so we read all 6 books, like a Jane Austen Book Club.  In December we had what the library is hoping to be the first of an annual Jane Austen Birthday Tea and guests were encouraged to come in period attire.  So I made plans to construct a dress over Thanksgiving Break.

Pattern: Simplicity 4055

I like the top of one view and the bottom of the other, put a zipper in rather than buttons.

I used a cotton print from the quilting section of the fabric store.

Disappointed that more women didn't dress up!  (There were probably 200 in attendance and this is all who dressed up.)

7  Totes and a Wine Caddy in Purses, Bags, Wallets: Completed Projects: General by Katesters on: December 29, 2009 09:04:19 PM
I've been in a bag-making frenzy!  It started with some reusable shopping totes that I made for my family's white elephant gift exchange.  My crafty Aunt Mari snagged these bags: http://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=331112.0

I decided to make more from my various remnants.  I used a free pattern/tutorial from morsbags.com
For my gal pal:

For my cousin, this one took a bit of patchworking to get enough material together:

For myself:

Then my mom said she wanted a wine caddy of sorts to cart to parties, ideally holding two bottles of wine.  Thus, I fashioned this, with no cost to me, since I used remnants and excess supplies:

8  Reusable Grocery Bags in Needlework: Completed Projects by Katesters on: December 16, 2009 05:36:08 PM
Every Christmas, my dad's family does a white elephant gift exchange.  I decided to go eco-friendly this year and make reusable grocery bags.  I first got the idea when I saw a pattern on the Burda website.  Free!

I searched high and low on the internet for some cool designs to decorate them with.  Then off to the fabric store, where I purchased "duck" fabric.  Very durable, canvas-like material, comes in lots of great colors!

And now, onto the bags!

A recycle heart

A peace sign made of leaves

And then cute fruits and veggies!

Here are some close-ups of that:

Garlic, the Stinky kid

Carrot, the goofball kid

Heartsick Pear, who loves the studmuffin Apple, and then weirdo Lemon with the sour attitude!

My mom and sis are already going crazy for them, and plotting to pick them in the exchange.

9  Nannerpus! in Toys, Dolls and Playthings: Completed Projects by Katesters on: October 04, 2009 03:20:39 PM
"You can call me Nannerpus, Nannerpus!  And guess what, I love pancakes!"

My friend Cherie introduced me to the wonder that is Nannerpus.  For her birthday, I made her a soft, squeezable Nannerpus!  BTW, she's in her 30s! Hehe.

Time to party! Propped up on a spool stool! Haha.

He is made of a soft yellow fleece, with an underside of furry white mystery fabric.  It feels like a really soft washcloth.  I thought it was a good match for the inside of a banana peel.

I thought about making him a puppet, but since I have no idea how to do that, I kept him as a soft plush.  I totally forgot to make him a stack of plush pancakes to sit on.  Oh well.

10  True Blood Pillowcase in Crafty Housewares: Completed Projects: General by Katesters on: October 04, 2009 03:10:44 PM
My friend Cherie from my book club LOVES the guy that plays Eric on True Blood.  As a joke, I made her this pillowcase for her birthday.  She loved it!  And was embarassed at how "teeny-boppery" she felt for loving it so.  Cheesy

A close-up of the fabric.  Tried to find something romantic and vampire-y?

I printed the hot picture on a printer-fabric sheet thing, went through the process of ironing it, wetting it, and ironing it again.  Then sewed it on to the fabric.  Sew simple! Hehe.  Now she can sleep next to her dream man.  Wink
