I have wanted to enter a Craftster craft challenge for years, so I am happy to finally have completed an entry for one!
For this challenge I went to Dollar Tree and spent a total of $8.76. I knew I really wanted to make something wearable, so I spent a while looking around the store. I ended up finding these tablet sleeves, which reminded me of neoprene. I just loved the colors and thought they would make a great top.
I was able to use everything I bought at Dollar Tree. I purchased four tablet sleeves, two laundry bags, a pack of elastic head bands, and one clutch pouch, which I removed the zipper from to use for the skirt. I didn't have a lot of the tablet sleeve material to work with, so I decided I would have to make it into a crop top. I used the head bands for the back of the top and the laundry bags for the skirt and two pieces of tablet sleeves for the skirt pockets. I had to completely take apart all the tablet sleeves so I could use the velcro and binding. I used the velcro as a closure for the halter strap and the head bands across the back. I used the binding on the top of the skirt and around the skirt pockets.
Here is one of the pieces of tablet sleeves with a pattern piece for the crop top...
I am really happy with the way it all turned out. I was hoping to make something that is actually wearable. I think I could easily wear the top out, but the skirt is a little stiff (it could be worn, but it probably wouldn't be very comfortable sitting down). The laundry bags are non-woven fabric, which were fairly thin so I ended up having to use double layers for the back and front. The top was modified from a princess seam dress pattern I had. I really love the design, but I had no idea it would take so long to make since I ended up having to do so much top stitching. The tablet material is some sort of foam, so it didn't lay very flat with out the top stitching.
Thanks for looking!
