2  J.Crew Scarf Questions! in Knitting: Discussion and Questions by greenmelanzana on: September 06, 2005 09:51:21 PM
Hello!!!
I recently got the new September J.Crew catalogue in the mail & I spent the afternoon drooling over the scarves, debating over the pricetags when my guy said "err Amanda, you knit, knit yourself a damn scarf".

Dur.

but regardless!!!!

I'm thinking about making either one of these scarves

I'm wondering if these are the sort of scarves that need to be knit in the round because of all the instarsia, like the stripes or the argyle, or if it's something that can be made cute by giving it a nice backing. If you knit a scarf in the round, do the edges still curl? Is that what you would stitch together?

Also, the one with the longer stripes, I read that you can use a really long circ and cast on a bunch and knit it width wise, rather than length (did that make sense).

Any tips on making a simple scarf? I feel so silly asking this, so I posted here rather than any of my other knitting groups, who are some times snarky Cheesy haha.

Also, does anyone know of a neat argyle chart?

Ok, I'm done : D

Thanks for indulging me!

Amanda

3  Re: One Skein Wonder KAL Anyone? in Knitalongs by greenmelanzana on: July 02, 2005 11:59:25 AM
finally!!!

please pardon the pimple. it's over 100 here & I had on sunglasses that rubbed my little face up...the results are viva la pimple!!

I used some gorgeous handspun yarn that I bought at the Black Sheep Gathering in Eugene Oregon...so much tempting stuff. It's all handpainted and I love how it goes from really smooth to lumpy. It's gorgeous!

This is the back! Look at those colors! Yay! I ended up using 10 1/2s for this because so far I've made three of these and had to give away all three because they just seemed too snug..I like baggy & comfy!

two fun little pins that I stuck to my shrug!

Thanks for looking!

Help help help! I'm glad i found this KAL because I've been stuck for a week on this! I know I know, it's easy, but I'm a newbie to knitting!

I'm at the part where it says "LEFT SLEEVE:" I don't want to post the specifics because well...copyright and I'm really into supporting independant  pattern makers..and you gals have the pattern....!

What I'm confused about is if I seed stitch off the 8's onto the 5s...or if I just move them to the 5s and then seed stitch..

I also dont understand how to "pick up stitches" I'm sure this is something obvious, but if someone could point me in the right path, I'd love to get this finished so I can post it & make more!

Oh! And my yarn is called "Manos Cotton Stria" & I totally didn't mean to get the same color as she's wearing in the pattern photo..haha.

Any help is REALLY apperciated!!! Grin Thanks in advance!
Amanda

6  Art from my colleges art show! in More Art, Less Craft: Completed Works by greenmelanzana on: May 15, 2005 02:54:26 PM
So I'm forever trying to bridge my love of sewing with my love of fine art.
Lately I've been making giant stain paintings & sewing & stuffing circles onto the painting, then shooting thread through it.
The head curator of the Crocker Museum in Sacramento judged our annual student art show here in Northern California, and I got this piece into the show, and won an award.

Strange! Does anyone else find it hard to mesh together two passions?

Please, pardon my expressions in the photos, the top one, I'm laughing, the second I'm about ready to die of a heart attack because about 10 people where taking my photo at the same time.

The worst part of this is, I really would LOVE a masters of knitting and everyone at school thinks I'm insane.

Keep following your dreams eh??

Cheesy
Happy Painting & Knitting & Sewing!!

7  I made a clam : D in Toys, Dolls and Playthings: Completed Projects by greenmelanzana on: May 15, 2005 02:46:15 PM

I made this little clam the other day, I really don't know why!
He's made from felt, metalic thread & pearls..

Kinda geeky but when I posted it to my blog, everyone seemed to want one for their desk...

strange.

Also, my cat Simon likes to carry him around the house as if the clam is like..his baby.

Oh...the strange things I've come up with lately!

8  Re: Yarnholic Seeking to Start a Support Group in Knitting: Discussion and Questions by greenmelanzana on: May 15, 2005 02:40:53 PM
So I was looking through my magazines and inside  one I found the subscription information for Rebecca.

Ready?

Wild West Wools

I remember emailing them and then talking to them on the phone for my subs.  I think I had ordered some back issues as well.

I hope this helps someone out and that it isn't redundant information

DEAR GOD!!!!! THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!!

Cheesy That wasn't redundant info at ALL! I've been looking for info & coming up empty handed!

I'm Amanda & I really am not too much of a Yarnholic, but I'm afraid I'm turning into one! I just went to Micheals, before I read this of course : D and bought some fun yummies! All super cheap. Isn't super cheap the hardest to pass up...? I am kinda impressed with myself for not having 100's of yarn & then I started to get to the photos of everyones collections and I thought, "oh no, I WANT 100's of yarns!!!!"

This was what I have gotten myself into trouble with today

but my real addiction is carding wool & dying it strange colors...

You guys are so wonderful...Now I'm going to keep returning to this thread when I think...ohhh I need THAT!!!

Cheesy good luck & happy knitting!!

10  hi im new and this is my necklace! in Trinkets and Jewelry: Completed Projects: Reconstructed by greenmelanzana on: December 16, 2004 04:21:09 PM
Hi everyone!

I recently stumbled upon a darling jewelry creator in both Nylon & Vogue magazines who makes these big, chunky, pearly, cartoony necklaces. I instantly wanted one, however, the thousand dollar price tag scared me off...

these are her works.. http://www.caterinazangrando.com/sito.htm

Once I saw these, they stuck in my mind, I love funky necklaces!

I also love Harry Potter, so I searched all over ebay for figurines but they were all so BIG! Then I found the little lego men.

I bid and bid and finally got a set, after 2 months. Why these are so popular is beyond me.

Regardless! I took apart several old pearl necklaces, bought some cheap sparkly beads from Walmart, some bigger funkier ones from a local bead shop (The Beadman!) and began the necklace of my silly dreams.

I just burned holes with nychrome wire through their little bodies and strung them up!

These are my results!

Necklace!

Toggle!

I have REALLY enjoyed seeing everyones lego works, they are great!

Heres a question...

has anyone made funky necklaces/earrings out of felt? i've searched around the forum but i havent seen anything!

Thanks for looking & thanks for posting such awesome things!  Kiss
