411  CLOTHING / Clothing: Completed Projects: Reconstructed / Re: Dress and Wrap Skirt on: June 13, 2009 05:17:07 PM
I love that skirt.  Making clothes out of sheets always reminds me of when I was little and I used to wrap myself up in sheets and pretend they were beautiful dresses.
412  JEWELRY AND TRINKETS / Trinkets and Jewelry: Discussion and Questions / Re: The random RESIN question thread! on: June 13, 2009 02:28:53 PM
Ok, so I poured my first resin today, easy cast epoxy resin.  I filled the molds and moved on to play with some other stuff, then noticed that the resin had overflowed the molds, so I cleaned it up.  Since it has been a couple of hours I just went to check on it and the molds had over flowed again!  Does teh resin always 'grow' like that?

415  HOME SWEET HOME / Interior Decorating: Discussion and Questions / Covering Mirrored Closet Doors on: June 13, 2009 09:18:29 AM
Ok, my bedroom has two sets of sliding doors on the closet, four sliding doors in all, all solid mirror.  That is like a whole wall of mirror.  I want to cover, decorate, disguise or otherwise hide them.  I don't want any mirror visible, and the sliding door still has to work since I can't afford to replace them right now.  Any ideas for my mirror be gone mission?

Did you use a pattern or was it original?  I would love to have that pattern if it was one.
418  NEWS AND DISCUSSION ABOUT CRAFTSTER / Introduce Yourself / Hello Everyone on: June 12, 2009 05:26:31 PM
My name is Lisa, I'm a civil engineer living in southern Indiana.  I live with my dog Lolita.

I love to read, and have moved from the traditional paper based book to reading electronically on a kindle and love it.  I already read a lot, but now that it is so easy to take books with me and buy new books on the go I read TONS.  I read and loved the Twilight series, and promptly followed it up with the Morganville vampire series, which I also found great in it's own way, though I try not to admit to people that I am so hooked on young adult fiction!  I also like to read suspense and mystery novels, but my favorite authors only come out with about one book a year each, so I have to fill the space between with something.  I just bought Coraline last night and am looking forward to reading that.

I really like old school pinups and retro styles.  I love girly glam, since I work in a dirty, male dominated environment.  On my last trip to Las Vegas I got to visit the Bettie Page store and bought a beautiful dress that I adore.

I am a basic sewer, trying to teach myself to sew clothes.  I made a quilt last summer, and have done all of it but the actual quilting, I am scared I will ruin it!  I also needlepoint, cross stitch, crochet and do some beading, decoupaging, and painting.  I am about to attempt resin for the first time this weekend!  The big project I am undertaking right now is covering two ugly wood book cases with cut up news print, right now I am experimenting with ways to get the paper to adhere to the wood laminate.

Anyway, I love the site, and look forward to getting to know everyone.

Lisa
419  HOME SWEET HOME / Crafty Housewares: Completed Projects: General / Re: Dandelion Paperweight on: June 11, 2009 04:53:55 PM
So I was going to try experimenting with this over the weekend, but we had two days of severe thunderstorms and the water has de-fluffed all the dandelions in my garden!  Boo, I finally found an excuse not to pull weeds in my flowerbed, and it gets washed away.  I'll have to wait a few more days I guess.

As an additional note, while looking online for instruction on how to do this I found some interesting pictures of other flowers trapped in what looks to be resin and a website that says you should freeze dry the flowers first.
