1  CLOTHING / Costumes: Discussion and Questions / RenFest bodice pattern? on: May 29, 2011 07:44:58 PM
So, I don't have the $100+ to drop on a new bodice for RenFest but I do have most of the stuff for making one. Thing is I don't have a pattern D: The type of bodice I want is like this

Like I said I don't have a pattern so I don't know how to go about this. Do you know a patter for something like this or how to draft my own?
2  CLOTHING / Clothing: Discussion and Questions / Need help with witch/winter formal skirt on: November 30, 2009 04:52:40 PM
The winter formal for my school is coming up in 3 months and I figured I better get a head start on making my dress. Thing is, I've hit a little snag before even starting to make the dammed thing!

What I'm making is this:

It was made by HarleyQuinn1121 on Deviantart
It's a long sleeved shirt, an underbust corset, bloomers, and a skirt.

Bloomers and all...except the wand and hat. My problem is the skirt. I'm not sure if I want to go with a skirt like that one or one of these styles to show off the bloomers.

It would all be made of black fabric and the skirt would not be lined if the third option is chosen. I was hoping that you people could help me chose as well as help me figure out how I would go about making the skirt (if the second or third choice is picked) as well as the shirt. Specifically the puffy part of the sleeves and the neck line. I know, I'm a noob at sewing.
3  KNITTING / Knitting: Discussion and Questions / Scarf pattern? on: November 22, 2009 02:01:09 AM
So, I've never knitted once in my short life but I figure I might as well start now, right? I've been trying to learn most things from online and though it's confusing I think I'm understanding it. I figure my first project should be something I want and will (hopefully) enjoy making. So, I want to make a Slytherin P(S)S/CoS scarf. Probably not the best choice for a first time project but sadly that's the only thing I really want (and need) at the moment. Thing is, I can only find the pattern for making one with circle needles and I don't recall seeing one in any of the craft stores in my area. Though to be honest I wasn't really looking.

Basically, can anyone give me a knitting pattern for a PS/CoS scarf that doesn't require circle needles?
4  COOKING / Dessert / Toffee problems, help! on: November 21, 2009 11:43:04 PM
Today I tried to make toffee. It was all going great, until the chocolate. I poured the toffee onto that pan, spread it out a bit and sprinkled some chocolate chips over it. After a minute I started to swirl the chocolate around but it just mixed with the toffee. It turned to a crumble-y mess. I'm guessing that I just didn't let the toffee it's self sit long enough but I was wondering if there might have been something else I did wrong.

I made it with 2 c butter, 2 c sugar, 1/4 t salt and constantly stirred it until it reached 285 F.

I'm eating what is on the spoon right now and like I said, it's really crumble-y. There is a bit with just toffee and it seems perfectly fine. So, any ideas on what I did wrong? It's the not waiting long enough, isn't it? Tongue
5  Halloween / Halloween Costumes / Help with masquerade! on: October 10, 2009 04:32:18 PM
My friend is having a Halloween party but she decided to have a theme, that being masquerade. She wants it to be all prom type dresses and tuxs but the problem is that not all of us have the money to go out and buy another expensive dress right after homecoming. I've searched the internet and have seen some pretty costumes for masquerade but again money becomes an issue. So, I was wondering if any of you crafty people could give me some suggestions for putting together something for this party. Two things though, while I do have access to a few thrift stores they are not all that great and while I am a girl I don't absolutely have to wear a dress. I was actually thinking of wearing black shorts with a black tux jacket and a frilly shirt at first but none of the thrift stores around me have stuff that will really work. So, please help!
6  CLOTHING / Shoes: Discussion and Questions / Need ideas for boots on: July 18, 2009 05:41:35 PM
So I bought these boots a few months ago and when I got them I realized, I can't walk in 3 inch heels. I was very sad but I got them for only $20 so I wasn't too bummed. So, after thinking it over I've decided I'm going to sell the boots but first I want to beautify them! So what I need is some ideas to do so. I'm thinking I would like to paint them, but then again I don't know. I'm going to switch out the laces with some pretty ribbon but first I need to know what I'm going to do to them so I can know what color. So, any ideas?
