1  Help please?! It won't pick up the bottom thread! in Sewing Machines: Discussion and Questions by curlsmakethegirl on: June 18, 2009 06:18:04 PM
I'm about to throw all the sewing machines in the house in the street and let a car smash them. We have a few different ones, and I can't seem to get the needle to pick up the bottom thread ON ANY OF THEM!

Here we go; My brother was threading my very first sewing machine for me and then I'd just use it (he tried to teach me, but of course when I did it his way, it still didn't work for me...). But now he's moved out, and I've been hand sewing since. So I thought I'd ask you guys! Smiley. I know that it's got to be me, since I can't thread any of them, so I took pictures of how I do the bobbin thingy (man I sound like a TOTAL professional). I followed the manual, and it still won't pick it up!

If any of you can help me I would be eternally grateful and name this machine after you ( =p! maybe it doesn't like it's current name...I named it Banana when we got it).

[I apologize in advance for the crappy pictures... I tried to adjust some of them but my camera is still broken from killing it at a concert.]

The machine is a Brother LS-2125 ^ That's it!

Bobbin case thing.

Then I put the bobbin in bobbin case thing.

Then I pull the thread like this.

Then I bring it over beneath that clip.

And in it goes!

It is in. I try and try to get the needle to pick it up and it does not cooperate with me.

Please help me out?

2  Quote/Comic-ish wallet. in Purses, Bags, Wallets: Completed Projects: Reconstructed by curlsmakethegirl on: June 08, 2009 11:34:20 AM
I clipped out a bunch of things I liked out of Teen Vogue, but I hate just having a ziploc of clippings. So some of those have now become a wallet Smiley I can actually fit dollar bills and my phone in here and close it! haha.

sorry for the grainy-ness Sad I have no idea what my camera is doing lately. I think I broke it.

it says "You can't judge anyone for what they've done BECAUSE PEOPLE CHANGE" it was a Leighton Meester quote:)

Open&Inside! The little clipping inside are lyrics from a Carrie Underwood song Smiley

3  Super Honey to the rescue! [puppy cape!] in Pet-Related Crafts: Completed Projects by curlsmakethegirl on: June 08, 2009 10:20:50 AM
This cape is all hand-sewn, even the 'H' on the cape! And the 'H' is actually pieced together bias tape.

I love this shot, it's like she's in action.

The cape+a close up of the H.

4  Ruffly little puppy dresses. in Pet-Related Crafts: Completed Projects by curlsmakethegirl on: June 08, 2009 10:08:52 AM
I made my mom's pup, Honey, a cute little dress. After my brother's girlfriend seen it and liked it so much, I decided to make her puppy one as well.

Coco! My bro's girlfriend was excited (that's her, holding Coco);

Here's a picture of the two dresses laying together. As you can see, Coco is much bigger than Honey, hahaha Tongue
And Honey's dress isn't crooked/lopsided, it was just the way it was laying and my camera was dying so I didn't take my chances wasting time adjusting it.=P

I'm pretty proud of myself considering these are the first two pet clothing items I've ever made.
Thank you for looking!

5  A new dress out of two shirts!=D in Clothing: Completed Projects: Reconstructed by curlsmakethegirl on: June 07, 2009 08:18:14 PM
So I made this cute little baby out of a green shirt, and the bottom of a white/green babydoll top that was too big to wear as a shirt...but the perfect size for my hips! It's a little bit short, so I'm thinking I could wear it as a bathing suit cover, maybe? Or just around the house or something. But I was incredibly proud of it! This was my first clothing article I made =D

Oh! And it's NOT all sideways like that, the skirt part, I think that was the way it was hanging or something. When it's on, it's all straight, promise Smiley

(please don't mind my zebra headband, I forget why that was there...)

6  Two cute little wallets&A makeup bag! in Purses, Bags, Wallets: Completed Projects: General by curlsmakethegirl on: June 07, 2009 08:09:06 PM
My mom's friend saw a few of the purses and wallets I've made and asked if I could make her a coin purse like my moms (same print, etc etc), but she wanted it to be closed with velcro.

Here's the wallet! (the image has the front, back, and a picture of the inside and all that jazz)

And then, my mom really liked this fabric that I had, so I decided to make her something out of it. It was only my second time doing a zipper! How'd I do? Okay? Oh, and the stitches were hand-sewn and MEANT to look crooked, I have a wallet kinda like this and she loved when I did them all crooked and thought it was really cute so I did hers that way too Smiley It was added to her list of gifts for Mothers Day.

Image has picture of the front with a cute little bow I made and of the inside!

And, a makeup bag, again, for my mama for Mothers Day. She needed a new one really bad. This was my FIRST time doing a zipper!! I almost got the whole thing stuck inside out! And, it's padded pretty thick so it holds all her makeup. And trust me, she STUFFS that baby even though she probably wears makeup two times a year Tongue

thanks for looking!!

7  black&white checked capri pants into a cute bag! in Purses, Bags, Wallets: Completed Projects: Reconstructed by curlsmakethegirl on: June 07, 2009 07:38:15 PM
So I had these black and white checkered capri pants, and I figured they would make a really cute purse. And, oh, look! They did! I love it's size, it's just big enough for all the crap I just MUST carry but don't even use half the time when I'm out, but not too big and it doesn't get really bulky when it's full of all that MUST-carry-never-use stuff!

Hooray! Okay, here's the pictures Smiley

the inside, I just lined it with a sturdy black fabric Smiley

on me. Sorry for the angle.

thanks for looking!

8  Cute jean skirts, to cute jean purses! [kinda pic chubby!] in Purses, Bags, Wallets: Completed Projects: Reconstructed by curlsmakethegirl on: June 07, 2009 07:30:28 PM
A jean skirt, into a cute purse!
It works just perfectly for overnight visits and such.

It's the only purse I've made out of a skirt that I haven't lined, because the denim is SO thick, and at the time I was impatient and didn't have any to match anyway so I skipped it Tongue

Skirt purse!

Detail of the button/bow. These took me forever!

wearing it Smiley Sorry for the horrible shot. It was 4am and I had to take it myself.

Anndddd, this was a skirt that was a little too short for my liking as I ended up shooting up about 5'' since the last time wore it.

I didn't take a picture of the lining >.<, but it's a cute bright orange and white checkered fabric! Oh and the handle of it is thick white ribbon!

Front [I did all the splattering myself];

Back [I promise it's not lopsided like that haha! The little orange hand prints are my baby brothers, and the white ones are mine. He loves when we finger paint, so I decided to make a purse with his precious little hands on it!];

Greek pizza [Aren't the colors just gorgeous?!];

On my plate, haha!;

the end Smiley thank you for looking!

10  Guitar cake mama made a few years back :) in Dessert by curlsmakethegirl on: June 07, 2009 06:22:55 PM
Oh boy, I hope I'm posting this right.. I've never posted anything on here before. I've been on craftster for years, lurking, pretty much. I never registered until a few days ago. So I'm sorry in advance if anything is posted wrong!!

So a couple years ago, on my 14th birthday, I begged my mom for a guitar cake and she wanted to do it in my favorite colors, pink and black. She went to I don't know how many grocery stores to find black icing and each told her "You'd have to wait until October and it'll be around", she wouldn't stop. She eventually found it somewhere. Sorry for the novel, here's the cake [it's a carrot cake inside, with cream cheese frosting...my favorite!];;

Another novel to explain the 2 1/2 strings before I show you the pic, ha! She told me not to touch it... but I did and I broke one of the 3 strings. She was a little bummed she couldn't make a life size one, but I still think she did a great job and it's still perfect and beautiful and made with lots of mama love. Her hands were swollen and broken out at the time, and they hurt a lot when that happens, yet she still spent forever on my cake.

Thank you for reading Smiley!

I wish I had pictures of the Hello Kitty cake she spent hours hand decorating (the things a mother does for her babies!) when I was 8. But it collapsed in the fridge before anyone could take pictures, if I remember correctly. Anyway, I should stop rambling.
