1  MISCELLANEOUS TOPICS / Discussion and Questions / Re: Ink, Paint...what to use on vintage luggage on: June 15, 2009 04:26:05 PM
Ok, so I tried a decocolor paint pen (not acrylic) and it worked great on the harder sided one (bumpy) but the softer sided one is very tacky and sticky.  Ok- that was redundant....but man it's sticky!  It seems like it didn't dry.  Should I just use a clear krylon or clear craft spray over top to seal/waterproof it?  Anyone have any ideas or other suggestions?

That's awesome!  It's something to get all that for free, but gives you warm fuzzies knowing it was your grandmas.  I love that the buttons came from outfits she wore.  My grandma gave me a quilt that had scraps from my mom (aunt's/uncle's) clothing as kids.  She would bring it out and say..this one was your mom's Easter dress, this one was your Uncle Jim's work pants... She gave it to me before she passed away.  I'm so glad I have it (and the memories).  Enjoy your new stash!

I'm Kim.

I'm a thirty-something, mom of a 2 year old ittle boy.  I'm a SAHM who does fitness instructing for pre/post natal mommas in my area.

I LOVE crafting. Absolute favorites are:  soap making, sewing, scrapbooking
I think I was born in the wrong era b/c ...i'm a vintage junkie!  My kitchen is all decked out in retro 50's paraphernalia.

Wanting to learn:
My mom- the extremely talented ubercrafter is going to teach me how to macrame!  How about that for a lost art!
I also want to take a Wilton Cake class at our local craft store.  I think it would come in handy when decorating those yearly cakes for the little one.  (and might be impressive to bring a kick A cake to the next neighborhood potluck)

Other hobbies:  Gardening (& canning/preserving), quilting, bike riding, reading

Would love to hear from others with similar interests!

How bout including a cute bendy straw.  Since they'll be sucking most of their food through a straw for a while?

Hi All!

I'm new to this site...and lovin it:)

Couldn't find the answer to this question though:

I'm wanting to embellish a pair of suitcases my mom gave me.  The cosmetic type small one is a softer-type vinyl and the larger one is hard-sided.  I've read online that you can use waterproof ink (for silhouttes etc).  Is this Indian Ink?  If not, what type of ink is waterproof/durable yet will stick to the suitcases?

Or is there a paint that matches this criteria?  I'm only wanting to add a black daisy to each so color isn't an issue.

TIA!  This site has so many talented folks on it.  I'm hoping to share some of my expertise with ya all too..once I find some LOL!
