1  KNITTING / Knitalongs / Re: Too many WIPs-along on: October 23, 2006 11:01:28 AM
I hope it's not too late to jump on this bandwagon.  I've gotten a little out of control with my WIPs and everyone's finished projects are so inspiring!!  Beautiful work, you guys!

My list is (in order actively knitting to the ghosts of knitting past)

IK Holiday Lacy Kerchief scarf (which is a really fun pattern and has
    superceded everything else) 1/6 done
IK Amish Oval rug - 1/3 done (this takes a lot of seaming and finishing
and the pieces must be blocked before working on the next piece, so
that's my excuse for this taking a while)
Rowan Red hot - still on the lace edging of the front
VK Shawl Collar pull over- only needs seaming and finishing.  I'm thinking
it will be too small so I'm depressed with it and ignoring it.
Plus two different pairs of socks with one sock completed
Glampyre's Orangina (though it's too cold to wear it now)

I'm going to start Knitty's Starsky when I get the yarn in a couple of days because I need a warm sweater, so I'll add it to the list.  I won't mention all the yarn I have with specific projects in mind...it's embarrassing.

Lucy and Justimagine,

I did receive your ornaments and I was wondering  if you had gotten my pm.  I tried to pm everyone that I received but when I did yours, justimagine, I sent it and then got some sort of weird error.  I sent lucy's message afterward thinking that the last one probably went through and then it did it again.  When I tried to log back in it said Craftster was down a few minutes for maintenance.  Sorry!  I don't anyone to think I'm ungrateful.  In fact, I'm going to re-pm you ladies. My ornaments are beautiful and will post pixs this weekend!

I just pm'd!   I haven't been on Craftster in a while because I got a new job and just moved, but now that I'm settled I am coming out of the woodwork to do this swap.  I'm so excited because this will be my first Christmas tree on my own and now I'll have some awesome decorations to go on it!

Hey guys!  I'm sorry it took so long, but here are pictures of my wonderful goodies from gaiter_girl.
She used the best packing material ever, yarn!  There are two skeins of a mohair blend in my favorite colors, a brickish red and sage green.  The pic really doesn't do them justice.  I'm thinking a Branching Out scarf is in the works or maybe one long stripy one.   The two jars are bath salts, one in a yummy cinnamon and the other is the most amazing grapefruit smell.  They are really welcome because I tried twice to make bath salts for my partner they were horrible!  There is some homemade soap that she bartered for and a card she received from the robots in spring swap.  It was kind of like a swap within a swap--which I think is the coolest thing!
In the middle is some handmade lipgloss in a perfect shade of red.  It's kinda shimmery and looks fantastic on.  Here's a closeup.

Gaiter_girl, I LOVE everything!  I especially love how resourceful you were in putting together things for this swap.  You were an awesome partner.  Thanks!

Brena, thanks again for organizing this.  And to answer your question, GOOP for plastic is what I used on my soapdish.  Here is a closeup:

It says 'Fun in the Tub'.

Thanks for organizing a great swap, Brena!  I got a fabulous package from gaiter_girl this morning!  I can't wait to post pics (if that's ok, gaiter).

Krebstar, I'm so glad you like your things.  I saw the great stuff you made and it looks like we thought a lot alike.  The soap dish was a lot of trial and error because I had to try several types of adhesives before I found one that would adhere to that smooth surface.  I'm glad I tried because it turned out to be my favorite thing!

Everyone's spa packages are so gorgeous.  I haven't had a chance to comment (work, blech) but I'm so impressed.  I especially like macaulkv's record bowl gift basket, beccajane's knitted face cloth, gothmom's earring soaps, and brena's beaded candle holder.  Oops, I almost forgot djungelorm's cool sushi fabric!  Great job, guys!
9  OCCASIONS AND HOLIDAYS / Mother's Day / Re: Felt stationary box on: May 11, 2005 03:57:09 PM
Thanks guys!  I didn't even think that anyone was going to check this thread since it was past the holiday.  Stickysweetfun, to answer your question I sewed the side pieces together to make a sleeve for the box and to ensure it fit.  Then I sewed the bottom piece on.  All the measuring and fitting was done by eyeballing (as is everything I do  Wink).  Then I carefully sprayed spray adhesive onto the box and slipped the sleeve on.  I made the flowers individually, sewed them to the top piece, then stitched it to the rest of the covering and glued it down too.  At the end I used an Exacto knife to cut out the latch parts on the front.

Oh, I didn't line the box because I ran out of time.  I wound up folding over the felt and using ribbon to over the seams.  If I had lined it with a thin material I could have not folded the felt over and the box would have shut more properly.  Live and learn!

I'm a new felt convert...this stuff is so much fun! (I say now that I'm done with the project...)  Thanks again guys.

10  OCCASIONS AND HOLIDAYS / Mother's Day / Felt stationary box on: May 10, 2005 03:21:21 PM
Hi, guys!  I'm not used to posting outside the knitting forum, but it's nice on this side of the boards.   Smiley  My mom is a toughie to buy for on holidays (especially since her birthday was less than a month ago.)  She doesn't like 'things' for her house because she hates the clutter.  Since I wanted to make her something special for Mother's Day, I came up with this felt covered stationary box.  Previously she had been keeping all her stationary in stamps in a shoe box and that just wouldn't do!

It was my first go at doing something like this.  Thanks for looking!
