2  Silhouettes of Children for Christmas Gift! in Paper Crafts: Completed Projects: General by jenncastor on: December 23, 2010 05:08:59 PM
So this year I wanted to give my BFF something unique and meaningful for Christmas.....and this is what I came up with:

I made these silhouettes of her 3 kiddos with some pics I lifted from her Facebook and some scrapbooking paper I had on hand. I found these awesome 12x12" frames that were perfect for them, then added black ribbon bows to hang them by. Here are a few close-ups (sorry for the crappy pics):

(the background has a very subtle pattern, but it didn't translate too well in the photo)

(not sure what that green dot is on her face -- must've been on the camera lens)

I'm happy with how they came out and can't wait to give them to her tomorrow! What do you think? C+C welcome.  Cheesy

3  Re: Show Off Your Hair! in Bath and Beauty: Completed Projects by jenncastor on: December 26, 2008 09:32:52 AM
I wanna play, too!

I've gone from having all-one-length, straight, brown hair forever to short and auburn in the last year....here's a photo documentary of my transformation:

Super-old pic of me with my boring hair:

Last Christmas, boring again:

With some long layers in front (not the greatest pic, but oh well):

Short, choppy layers:

Recent photo, shorter, assymetrical and auburn:

Wish I could do something more drastic, but I teach school...in a pretty conservative district.

I'm thinking about trying another color -- maybe a dark brownish-red or plum....any suggestions?

Here's a couple pics of the AWESOME package I received from jrsloane1 yesterday!

First, one of the gorgeous knit tote, along with the two books I received and the sweet embroidered bookmark:

And a closeup of the bookmark:

She made this after a character drawn by one of my favorite illustrators -- I <3 it so much!

Thanks again, Jen -- you ROCK!!

6  Photoshopped Tree Sketch! in More Art, Less Craft: Completed Works by jenncastor on: January 07, 2008 08:21:10 PM
I am quickly becoming addicted to this board....it sure beats the hell out of doing school work!

Anyhoo, just thought I'd share this sketch I did a while back while laying under an oak tree. I later scanned it onto my computer and added color + effects in Photoshop (I'm so *not* a pro when it comes to this!). Whaddaya think?

Comments are appreciated!  Grin

7  Mixed Media Piece - Beeswax/Photo transfer/Found Objects in More Art, Less Craft: Completed Works by jenncastor on: January 02, 2008 09:52:29 PM
I did this mixed media piece several months ago, but I'm hoping to enter it in a local art show later on this month....I'm so excited, it's one of my favorite pieces ever! Grin

I started off with a vintage photo of my grandmother from the 40s and an old white cabinet door, circa 1920-1930s. I had this thing forever before it finally "told" me what it wanted to be! Anyhoo, I used Goof-off to make a solvent transfer of an enlarged photocopy of the photo onto the center of the door, then painted melted beeswax over it and sprinkled it with micah dust. I also had this great old key that I stuck into the wax in the lower righthand corner. Since the cabinet door was still hinged to a thin strip of wood, I attached chain to the sides of it to form a shelf of sorts, which I topped off with some pretty rustic-looking candles that I made with the left over beeswax. I call it "Altar" because I suppose it's an altar/homage to my grandmother, who was so important to me while she was living (and still is!).

So, what do you think? Comments appreciated!

8  Tropical Foliage - acrylics on canvas in More Art, Less Craft: Completed Works by jenncastor on: January 02, 2008 11:15:15 AM
So I've been lurking here forever Wink .....thought I'd come out of lurkdom to show off the painting I did for my brother for Christmas:

It's acrylic on canvas, 30 x 36" -- giant bamboo stalks, a banana plant and some orchids. We live in sunny old Florida, so I thought this would go nicely in his sunroom. Sorry 'bout the bad flash....

Whaddaya think? Comments/constructive criticism much appreciated!
