1  CROCHET / Amigurumi: Completed Projects / The Gift of a Penguin on: February 22, 2010 10:13:07 AM
So, hooray, here's my very second post on this site of a craft I have made.... It looks like my New Year's Resolution to showcase my stuff might come true after all....

Annnyway, this penguin was commissioned by my roommate's cousin after a weekend of bonding and booze (paid for with a bottle of Bailey's... Wink). He's based off the LionBrand pattern found here: http://www.lionbrand.com/patterns/70583AD.html, but heavily modified. This penguin is, in fact, about five times the size of the original pattern! He also has a mouth that opens for swedish-fish-eating, wings that are convex (or is it concave? I tend to mix them up) for better flapping ability, and a tail that completely wasn't in the pattern at all, but I think gives him more stability and an overall-penguin-shape.

Before mailing him off to Somewhere, MA, to live in a college dorm room, myself and my roommate took this penguin for some sightseeing around Boston. See? Here he is at the reflecting pool! (Ignore the fact that the pool's been drained....)

And here he is again, hugging my roommate so that the hug can be passed on to her cousin when she opens the box! Here's where you can really see his tail, too.
2  CROCHET / Amigurumi: Completed Projects / We Three Snails (I hope the pictures show up...) on: January 10, 2010 11:20:47 AM
So, for my New Year's Resolution (along with dropping a few pounds and getting my head all sorted out via therapy), I've resolved to post some of my actual crafts here on Craftster. Novel idea, huh? I've loads of yarn-like things all over the place, but between being intimidated by some of the masterpieces others have posted, and my own lack of computographical know-how, things never seem to actually hit the internets. So, here's my first craft-like (and not merely a comment on someone else's genius) posting of the new year. Yay!

I guess it's fitting that the snails in question were actually completed almost two years ago - during my Sophmore year of college. Based on some of the AMAZING work of Elisabeth Doherty (she of Gourmet Amigurumi fame - wanna see? Here's the snails I based mine on: http://www.flickr.com/photos/38635695@N00/tags/snail/), my snails lived rather comfortably around the apartment for several months. Ultimately, they went home with my roommates, to live long and productive lives doing whatever it is that crocheted snails do.

And, now, the best part: let's see some snails!
