The bag that was holding all my dirty clothes intended for the cold water wash was small, ancient and had one broken strap. It used to be the bag that went with my daughter to her daycare and she is in her first year of college now. Once the clothes fell out and then my husband, finding them on the floor near the regular clothes hamper tossed them into the regular wash. So much for those nice black wool pants I made - and I could never find that thin 100% wool again! But you don't complain when somebody else does the laundry.
I found a wonderful bags book at my public library It's called "Making Vintage Bags" by Emma Brennan. Have since bought a copy because I yearn to make every bag in the book. Many are purses as is the "Doris" pattern that I altered to make my new cold water wash bag. I just made it bigger even than the "enlarge by" size. Not sure how much I eyeballed it. Also the original straps just fill the opening but I left a space on either side so there would be a tuck-here area to put the dirty clothes down. Also there is a gap at either side atop the side seam (just don't sew the side seam all the way up and sew lining appropriately) But that is part of the original pattern.
Also I use oil cloth scrap to line the bottom of the bag - because I use oil cloth for a lot of projects and keep the old bits and pieces.Works great no need for special stiff stuff.
Also I stiffened the area next to the ties with some sort of very stiff no sew interfacing left from making my daughter a strapless dress. I don't remember what it was but it might be buckram.
Hope this photo attaches! I'm a newbie in this forum. Thanks for having me. I love the inspiration of everybodys bags and have also just finished a Jordy for my daughter as a result of that inspiration.
