I got three bookmarks last night! All awesome. I'm really touched by how well they matched my interests.
From Jadeye, a chic, ultra-mod-podged bookmark with my contrasting bright colors theme. This bookmark is TOUGH and elegant at the same time, with a kickin' ass quote on the back, and lovely scrolling colors on the front:
From dmarie, a Teesha Moore-esque crazy quilt bookmark, HUGE, done in bright, funky patterns with gorgeous embroidery, including a wonderful art quote:
"Your life is your art."
From MandyKaye, a blend of the two! Crazy quilt decoupage, again HUGE, again with colorful patterns, and a quote that is scary perfect for me. Did you spy a bit, MandyKaye? Plus she tucked in extra fancy papers for me to play with:
And for scale, laid out with a few paint markers:
The reason I got some huge ones is that on my questionnaire I said I read mostly nonfiction and they are often big so big bookmarks would be great.
Thank you, all three of you, for being so thoughtful of my interests and making such lovely art for me.
Hard to believe that actually filled the box to the stuffing point, but it did! I ran into a huge snafu with the other things I collected...our PO doesn't carry the envelopes! They sell little tiny ones instead! Anyone else run into this? I was so bummed! The things I had for you wouldn't fit in the box (I would have had to cut them all to pieces or fold them), so I had to totally put together something else, and I don't have all the clippings and things you all do, but I tried to put in things that would be useful even if you already have some, like a neat little blank book and ATC bags, and I'm so glad you like the vintage cards. I figure you can either cut them up or send them. I wish I'd been able to do better.
Different pretty papers, scrapping papers, and a few pieces of cardstock, plus some charms and a skull ring I gave to my 13 yr old daughter. She loves it. And I'm doing a bookmark swap now, and I can see some stuff in here to totally have some fun with that.
And the supplies!
Three punches and a decorative edge pair of scissors, plus some lovely ink in my favorite color. lylacfey, you'll have to tell me more about the ink, like what kind is it and how best to use it! The punches are a heart, a circle, and the best one, a butterfly. I had NO punches, so I'm so happy to have these.
Thank you lylacfey! I'll get yours out this week. I picked up something special today to put in it.
Okay, so now I want to give you all the treat of seeing my package from calluna! It's an exploding box of adventure! I absolutely LOVE it. It's an adventure all by itself, looking at all the details and doodads. It's a Wilderness Explorer Kit! It's so clever and so much time and heart went into this. I really love that everything is attached so it's easier to keep it all together, since I actually do tend to go on a lot of adventures myself and need things to be packable. I also like that the doodads attached are useful, especially the poop-scoop magnet and ultra cool tiny Swiss army knife! Okay, so here are pics (and these are only the beginning...the whole thing is just full of fun and detail):
This is it, waiting to be opened, full of promise...
And lookie, all exploded!
This is the supercute pic at the bottom of the box, outlining all that is needed for an adventure:
These are the two club badges, one for me and one for my partner (so sweet!) and instructions for how to earn my own Assisting the Elderly badge:
Here are 3 of the little doodads, the scoop magnet (poly clay scultped!), the neato tiny knife (embellished with Caw Caw Rar on one side and Tribe 54 on the other), and the all important extra leaf (crocheted and felted?):
I really love this. Thank you so much, calluna. It's definitely coming with me on my future adventures.
I'm so so glad you like it. When the inspiration struck for the piece, I cried. I'm glad you enjoyed your first prune! I love those little suckers. I could easily eat too many. Ahem. Anyhooo...yes, that card is actually made by my mother, from a photo she took of her own garden, which is the nicest in the neighborhood, lemme tell ya.
Since the piece has such personal meaning for me, please indulge me as I post some close-ups:
I was a teased fat kid, so this has personal meaning:
and the one with extra special meaning for me, being the mother of a developmentally delayed daughter:
Thank you, calluna, for appreciating it. And you're absolutely right, they're all exiles, rejected by their own heroes. In fact, Carl is exiled from his own neighborhood, too. Oh damn it. You're making ME cry now.
I received my lovely gay pride card from calluna about a week ago, and I got my Father Ted quote card and My Favorite Color card from mxr145 yesterday, and they are all great. I've been sick for several days, and kind of off and on since the first of the new year actually, so I am behind, but I'm very grateful for the ATCs. Thank you. Here are the pictures:
calluna's gay pride card, "Out On The Table":
(It incorporates many other faves of mine, rainbows, spirals, and glitter for starters...)
mxr145's 2 cards, "Father Ted Quote" and "Favorite Color":
(Now I want to know what episode that one's from!)
