1  OCCASIONS AND HOLIDAYS / Misc. Gift Idea Brain Blockage / Ideas for Sister in Hospital on: February 23, 2012 12:50:03 PM
My sister is in a mental hospital (I have no idea what the politically correct term for it now is but that's what my sis calls it!) and according to my mum is bored out of her mind.

I want to send her a gift package with items I have made or she can make herself. So far the only thing I have got are some Baby Ruth bars.

A few things to take into account;

1. I am in the US and she is in the UK, so nothing too heavy.
2. She isn't allowed scissors so if its something she needs to put together I need to be able to cut it before I send it.
3. She is only allowed one small needle, so if its something to stitch together it can't be too thick.
4. She is only allowed one pair of knitting needles and they are huge (my mum likens there size to if 2 wooden spoon handles are joined) so a pattern would have to work with large needles.

She loves reading, mainly classics but will pick up anything. She has just recently learned to knit (but seems quite natural at doing it, unlike me!) she has only made a scarf and small squares, possibly a pattern for a level up from where she is right now? She goes for walks a lot to help clear her mind.  I am struggling to think of what else Roll Eyes

Oh she likes fashion but has her own style, enjoys looking in charity shops as well as high street places. She likes painting her nails but nothing very fancy.

I have no clue what to make her, I can sew and do paper crafts and willing to try my hand at other things. She likes being crafty but her not having access to scissors has really made it hard to know what crafts I could include for her to do. My mum has already given her a few cross stitch to do.

Any help or ideas, even store bought items would be great!
2  TOYS, DOLLS AND PLAYTHINGS / Toys, Dolls and Playthings: Discussion and Questions / Kids Craft Kit Ideas on: March 31, 2011 08:51:49 PM
I am in charge of putting together kids craft kits instead of Easter candy and I am stuck.

I need ideas for materials I can buy to then create instructions on how the childen can make the materials into something.

The only thing I can think of is peg dolls.

Any ideas?

Thanks in advance!
3  CRAFTY BUSINESS ADVICE / Get Product and Website Opinions / Fair Craft Show Prices? on: January 19, 2011 05:30:49 PM
I am hoping to do my first craft fair in a few months but struggling to decide on the items to craft for it. I don't want to spend lots of time on items that won't sell for a fair price.

What would you be willing to pay/ sell these items for?

Leather Brooches
Bookmarks
Tea Cup Candle
Button Rings
Bunting
Felt Brooches
Sets of 4 Tile Coasters or Individually
Mini Chalk Boards

I realize it depends on the quality etc but just a general price you would be happy to pay, maybe a maximum price you would spend.

4  JEWELRY AND TRINKETS / Trinkets and Jewelry: Discussion and Questions / Diamond Glaze on: January 17, 2010 11:03:16 AM
For Christmas 2010 I want to try to make scrabble tile pendants for all my female relatives/ friends as they seem easy and also cheap lol. I have heard numerous people mention Diamond Glaze and have a few questions.

1. Is it really that good? Is there something else I should use instead?

2. What size bottle would be best, I am only making 15 or so necklaces and doubt I would make more. Is the 2oz bottle enough for this? Or can the diamond glaze be used for other things so I am better off getting the larger bottle? (I am sure it has other uses I am just drawing a blank as to what they could be right now!)
5  PAPER CRAFTS, SCRAPBOOKING & ATCs (ARTIST TRADING CARDS) / Paper Crafts: Discussion and Questions / Making A Book Questions on: October 13, 2009 10:37:07 AM
I am going to make a small book for my brother full of recipes and helpful tips. As I have never done this before I have a few questions.

Firstly for pages can I half a regular sized piece of paper?

What kind of paper/ card is best for the pages? I am thinking of using 5 sheets of paper folded to make 20 pages.

What should be used for the cover?

I am adding tags and items in the book so it will be quite thick, is it best to decorate the pages before or after binding?

6  CLOTHING / Clothing: Completed Projects: General / First go at a Vendors Apron on: May 27, 2009 02:03:33 PM
Well this is what I decided to make my mum for her birthday. She loves doing car boot sales and her old nasty bum bag is on its last legs.

If I were making it again I would change the velcro to a zipper and also have the pen slot shorter. Well we live and learn. Hopefully she will like it. The flash has distorted the colours, they do actually look good together!

7  PAPER CRAFTS, SCRAPBOOKING & ATCs (ARTIST TRADING CARDS) / Paper Crafts: Discussion and Questions / Where to buy Large Playing Cards? on: May 26, 2009 09:22:46 AM
I would love to make my husband a 54 reasons why I love you (using the jokers to make 54!) scrapbook type thing. The problem being I would like to make it out of large playing cards. I think they are around  4" X 6"

Does anyone know where I can get a pack from? Preferably under $10. I would be very grateful.
8  PAPER CRAFTS, SCRAPBOOKING & ATCs (ARTIST TRADING CARDS) / Scrapbooking: Discussion and Questions / Personality Box Help on: May 18, 2009 06:05:47 PM
My mums birthday is coming up and I would like to make her a small box and fill it with different bits of decorated card and trinkets.

It is hard to explain but basically it till be in the form of a cigarette type box (lid flips open, though around 4x6 size).
Inside will be a variety of cards each with a word, eg kindness with perhaps people hugging, thoughtfulness and a pic of a cupcake.

Problem being I am not sure how to make a box like this that is strong. I also have trouble thinking up other cards ideas and small gifts I can include.

Any ideas?

Oops this needs moved to paper crafts, sorry!

9  TOYS, DOLLS AND PLAYTHINGS / Toys, Dolls and Playthings: Discussion and Questions / Pinata Filler Ideas Needed on: May 17, 2009 10:55:01 AM
Each year I buy a pinata for my niece and nephew and fill it with bits and pieces. This year I would love the majority of the items to be handmade, hopefully by me!

Problem is I have no clue what I can make that is small enough to go in a pinata and also be bash resistant when they get carried away trying to make a hole in it.

My niece is 9 and nephew is 7.

Thank you!
10  JEWELRY AND TRINKETS / Beads: Discussion and Questions / Identifying Stone Beads? on: May 17, 2009 10:40:19 AM
Well firstly hi! I am new to this forum but I have been hooked ever since I happened across it.

I was wondering if anybody knew of a site where I could identify different stones. I have a vintage necklace that I would like to remove the beads from and would love to know what they are.

Also if I were to post pics could people give me some ideas?

Thanks!
