1  QUILTING / Quilting: Completed Projects / Doll Quilt on: April 24, 2010 10:57:44 AM
I've been working on my second ever quilt - a rather large project for our bed.  It's taking forever to quilt, so I took a break and did this for my daughter the other night.  I don't think she's too impressed, but does it ever feel great to finish a project!

What a wonderful idea!  Your sister-in-law must have just adored it, and I bet it will keep her baby occupied for quite some time - exactly what a mother needs Smiley

Thanks so much for all of the very kind comments!

I was unsure about attempting such a large project for my first, but I had a bed upstairs that needed a bedspread, and I like to know that I'll use the things I make.

The next quilt project I want to make has a lot of flying geese, so I pieced the back for practice.  Then it turned out to be my favourite part of the quilt  Cheesy

I've already bought the fabric for my next quilt - now I have to start cutting & sewing.

Thanks again for the support and encouragement!

I finally finished my first quilt Smiley

It's a large twin size (92" x 68" approx), because I wanted to be able to cover a bed upstairs.

The front is a chinese coin quilt:

And the back I just pieced together using the same fabric line (moda's neptune):

I think I prefer the back to the front - less places where you can see my wonky stitching Smiley

I quilted using free-motion stippling.  I really need to work on keeping my stitching even.

5  CLOTHING / Clothing for Kids: Completed Projects / Re: My second dress :) on: July 23, 2009 06:21:30 AM
Thanks for all of the kind comments Smiley

The pattern is by Portabello pixie (Sandi Henderson).  It's a really easy dress to make, and was a great starter dress for me.

Now I have to tackle that pile of linen I bought before the summer is over!

Again, from the Analise pattern, but this time with a few ruffles.

All in rocket ship and robot fabric.  Frilly rocket ships FTW!

Thanks for the kind comments.  I'm hoping that I can do a few more for her for the summer, as I'm either too cheap to buy things in the stores or they aren't to my taste Smiley

The skirt fabric is by Alexander Henry fabrics: "Starling" in natural.  I got it from etsy (fabricworm, I believe).

I'm new to sewing, but I've been inspired to start making a few things for my daughter.  This is my very first attempt at a dress, it's from the "Analise" pattern by Portobello Pixie.

My daughter is a very reluctant model (at 21 months standing still for a photo is hard), so I took a few candids of her playing.

This is such a great idea for a cross stich.  I think I may have to make one for myself ...
