11  HOME SWEET HOME / Crafty Housewares: Completed Projects: Reconstructed / Wizard of Oz Wooden Hooks on: November 03, 2008 06:42:03 AM
Not sure if this goes here, but it seems as good a place as any.
So at Target yesterday while perusing through the $1 section (My weakness) I came across this set of wooden hooks, and thought they'd be great for either organizing my purses or my necklaces (which is probably what it will end up being used for) Anyways the only problem was the item looked like it belonged in a little boys room and I'm not all that into dragons meaning the huge dragon in the center was going to have to go. So I bought it took it home and hacked off the dragon (I didn't realize how glued down it was) took out my paint and voila:

Before:

I feel like there's something missing but I don't know what to add any suggestions?
After:

There is glitter on both the shoes and the wand but I don't know how well you can tell.

Thanks for looking comments appreciated!
12  JEWELRY AND TRINKETS / Trinkets and Jewelry: Completed Projects: General / Necklaces! Necklaces...and a couple earrings IMG HEAVY! on: October 17, 2008 09:20:00 AM
So with the stress of school and everything else in my life I've been relaxing by making jewelry it seems to be something I can do with relatively little thinking so without further ado here are my results:

My friend is obsessed with China she has a little sister adopted from there and really wants to go for a year on a missions trip when she graduates this year. So I made this with her in mind. I'm not sure if the characters are Chinese, although she would know, but regardless this will probably be her Christmas gift. Just imagine there are two earrings I seem to have lost its partner:

Would anyone be interested in a birthday swap for all of us August babies. I'd be willing to organize it if no one else wants to. Here's a link to the last August Birthday swap. It was really fun!

17  CROCHET / Amigurumi: Completed Projects / Alice in Wonderland Doll on: July 18, 2008 04:47:39 AM
So my roommate's 21st Birthday was last New Year's Eve. I didn't know what to make/get her but she made it quite clear that me making her an Alice in Wonderland doll would suffice. She's obsessed with Alice in Wonderland probably since her name is Alice. Anywho's 8 months later (7 months after her birthday) i finally finished it. I kind of fell in love with it and almost didn't want to give it to her. But i did and she loved it and showed it off to her entire family who also were very impressed, and her twin was appropriately jealous. Ok so pictures!:

There is no pattern i made the doll up as i went. I did see a doll here on craftster (which is where my roommate got the idea from) but beyond looking at it at first I really didn't go back and use it as a reference. My favorite part is the hair but i may be biased seeing as how it took me forever and i was sick of it by the end  Smiley
18  CLOTHING / Clothing: Discussion and Questions / So here's my question (making jeans smaller) on: April 03, 2008 08:10:25 AM
I'm a relatively novice sewer, but a quick learner just to start with. So i recently bought three pairs of jeans, which was actually good seeing as how all my jeans had gotten holes and i was running out of things to wear. The thing is, that was three weeks ago and they're already too big as my new years resolution to lose weight is actually working  Smiley. I don't want to alter them until i'm sure how much weight i'll lose, but I have no idea how to go about bringing them in. I thought about doing it on the outside of the legs but the pocket's in the way, and i forsee awkwardness in trying to deal with that. So should i bring them in on the inside?

I would just buy new jeans if these weren't brand new.

Details of swap:
As the title implies for this swap well be making amigurumi and sending it to your partner. Wikipedia defines amigurumi as the Japanese art of knitting or crocheting small stuffed animals and anthropomorphic creatures. Amigurumi are typically cute animals (such as bears, rabbits, cats, dogs, etc.) but can include inanimate objects endowed with anthropomorphic features. Amigurumi can be either knitted or crocheted. In recent years crocheted amigurumi are more popular and more commonly seen.

Crochetme.com offers some basic amigurumi patterns and guidelines for those that have never made amigurumi before:  http://crochetme.com/patterns/item/Toys+%2526+Games

I dont want this to be a too big or stressful swap so Ive decided about month to make 2 medium items. Feel free to discuss with your partner about making more if you want.

Large: 3 or more hours to make
Medium: 1 to 2 hours to make
Small: less than 1 hour to make

2 small=1 medium
1 medium + 1 small=1 large etc.
