1  SEWING IN GENERAL / Sewing in General: Discussion and Questions / Re: What to do with scraps? on: August 18, 2009 01:56:54 PM
I just thought of a project and have started it myself. I found a pattern for a laundry bag, but instead I'm going to make the bag out of my fabric scraps (looks a bit like a quilt) and use that to hold my fabric stash! Much better than the trash bags I'm currently using lol

Tyvek may not be the one you remember, but it's definitely fun! It's waterproof and though I haven't sewn with it my dad used it to cover a cookbook, so I know it must be fairly flexible. Good luck!

not to be a corporate shill but Bernina's Sewing Republic has some decent project patterns that might get you kick started. It helps to have some experience though as the apron I made was missing a step or two near the end that I only caught from experience.
My other advice would be not to worry, I went a year without a machine when I was in school and when I came out I was all fired up. Don't force it, if you're not in the mood you can just give yourself some time off, the inspiration will come when it's ready  Smiley
4  SEWING IN GENERAL / Sewing in General: Discussion and Questions / Re: Is using sheets for beginner projects lame? on: August 18, 2009 08:04:20 AM
Sheets are a good idea. Another place I've found cheap fabric is Ikea, they have a couple different styles under $6 a yard, so if you make a mistake you won't feel too bad.

I'm going to keep an eye on this thread because I have the same problem!
I have seen people sew all their random bits together to make the backing of a quilt... but if they're not coordinated I couldn't do that mysefl  Wink

that's so fun! I'd love to make that for my friend but I don't know if I have the patience, maybe I'll just send her the recipe  Wink
