31  Craft Swaps / ARCHIVE OF SWAPS THAT ARE TOTALLY FINISHED / Re:deco swap - 5 participants needed on: March 15, 2004 08:05:24 PM
I finished my first attempt at "book binding" tonight and lemme tell you that it was fun... I made the book with this swap in mind, but since I still have time before my blank needs to be mailed out, I may churn out a few more books and pick the best to send...

When I made the book I basically put the pages in groups of 3 and held the 3 pages together with grommets... Then I tied all the grommet "3" groups together with ribbon.. It is not the most complicated way of putting a book together, but I figured it'd be relatively easy to add new pages to the book, if I ever decide to use this theme for another swap... All I would need to do is just untie the ribbon and add more groups....

I hope everyone is doing well on creating their blanks... I can not wait for the swap to start, the themes are great!  Grin

has anyone felted any of the wool that they dyed with cool-aid?
does it change the felting? do the colours run when you felt it?

lauri

I did a felted bag once (with kool-aid dyed yarn that I dyed the sun tea way) and I had no issues with the colors running or fading....  I didn't felt it 100%. After a few lashings in the wash, the grooved texture on the bag remind me a bit of corduroy and I love corduroy, so I stopped felting at that point.

I was torn between two themes and I just hope the one I chose is not too complicated Shocked ... I'm a huge fan of collecting children's story books (mostly for the illustrations)... So I'd like my theme to be...

Your favorite Childhood story (or at least one of them... If you are like me...)

The only rule is that you use whatever mediums you chose to create a unique "illustration" to convey the book... No using illustrations that were published in the book or in conjunction with it Wink
34  CLOTHING / Clothing: Discussion and Questions / Re:Boring Ol' Jeans... What To Do? on: March 12, 2004 01:42:49 PM
I'd make a skirt... If the skirt is too small I'd add a panel on each side using left over leg fabric and if it is too big, I'd take in each side....

Everything sounds good so far... If we are going to go the route where you make a copy of the mix-cd (or tape) for everyone on the list, we should limit the participants (or at least create smalish groups) so the shipping cost does not get too high....

and as a footnote... If there is a chance Crafster would get in trouble for this, I could set up a mailing list on my web server to discuss Craftster mix trades..... So we can discuss and plot over there....  Wink

Well I've been making/trading mix tapes with friends for years and years and years... and I've yet to see anyone hunt my butt down for it....

Not to say that they could not do it... I just imagine if there is thousands upon thousands of people trading mp3's.. I bet even more people make mix cds... So that would be one hell of a lawsuit frenzy to undertake... or something...

-----

and in other news... From the other music thread I can see that the mix cd would be an exciting adventure... Seeing that there is such a variety in likes... I'm excited about the chance of trading mix cds (and tapes)....

So *someone* needs to organize this before my head explodes with the sheer thrill of it all... I'd be willing to collaborate and be a co-organizer.... It might be easier with two heads instead of one, eh?

I'll be fine mailing off to Europe this time... and most likely this won't be the the last time I am cool with it... To me it really depends on what I'd be shipping, if I'm doing other swaps at the time, if I'm flatass broke... etc.  Tongue

(edit cuz i'm senile)
I think if we are going to divide up the deco swaps later on by region, it'd be cool to at least sometimes have an international one....

I'd love to do a CD swap... and I could also make a tape for anyone who uses tapes....

How would we go about doing this?
