Herbology.

Temporarily relocated to classroom 115 D (outside, just beyond the astronomy tower - we've relocated due to a huge overgrowth of particularly fiesty mandrakes. We're working to clear them out without any injury to both wizards and plants)

Well hello Students, I'm Melissaurus, your Herbology professor for this semester. Since Spring is a time full of new life and flowers, this is the perfect time to give a little extra care and love towards the plants, magical and non-magical, that surround us and keep the world bright and exciting.

Completed Assignments:

Let's admire the beautiful handiwork of our fellow students who have completed projects in herbology this semester.

So with a bit of help from our headmistress - I am proposing my first NEWT

~NEWT PROPOSAL~
NEWT Subject: Defense Against the Dark Arts
House: Gryffindor
Project Name: Mastering the Procrastination - Deflection Spells
Brief Description: So I have a list of 50 crafty things I want to do that I've slowly been chipping away at for over 5 months now. I fully intent on finishing it by the end of this year - but to do so, I need to kick my crafting in to full gear. So with this NEWT I intent to master the art of deflecting the Dark forces of Crafty Procrastination. I'll start with 8 projects - if I can do all 8 before the month is up, I will simply add a few more until I'm done. Here are my 8 projects: 1) A set of illustrated quotes. 2) Yellow socks 3 ways (sewn, knit, and crochet) 3) A charity (SPEW) project. 4) Design a plus-size clothing line. 5) A wee house. 6) Handmade valentine cards. 7) Sew an Ugly doll. 8 ) Decorate a Lampshade.

Alright. Crafty overload for yous all. First off - here's an update on my OWL progress. I've gotten two of the zodiac-pokemon done - ratata (the rat) and meowth (the cat), completely. Then there's tepig (the boar) and torchic (the rooster), but they still need detail and colour. Smiley I'm quite happy with them so far.

Class/Challenge/House Pride: Horcrux hunt - Tom Riddle's Diary
House: Gryffindor
Project Name: Sketchbook Cover
Brief Description:
I found a horcux! I always decorate the covers of my sketchbooks/art journals, and this one seems extra special! I always pick a specific word to focus on for each sketchbook. Fittingly - this book's word is 'Seek'.

Class/Challenge/House Pride: Study of Ancient Runes / Gryffindor Extra Credit
House: Gryffindor
Project Name: A Space for my Ancestor
Brief Description: (I hope this isn't against craftster rules - but it's really sweet, full of love, and I felt like sharing with you all) In grade 5 we researched our family history for a project. I discovered that a few generations ago, I had a relative who was very well-known for his creativity. Due to discrimination, he had to flee the country he lived in for Canada, but always felt stifled creatively. I was fascinated and learned as much about his story as I could. Years in the future, I visited a Medical Intuitive, who mentioned this exact ancestor, and how he was involving himself in my creativity. I've felt incredibly connected to him ever since then.

I made this space for him next to my desk. It's made of an old crate turned on it's side, and filled with various objects that resonate with me, and hopefully with him. I really wanted to commemorate him and honour him, and I really hope we can work together. Smiley

Class/Challenge: Charms / February Destash Dash / Gryffindor Extra Credit
House: Gryffindor
Project Name: Prayer Flag Set
Project Page Link: Click right here
Brief Description: After the prayer flag swap, I decided I wanted to make a full set of prayer flags (something I've wanted to do for a long time that's eluded and bewildered me for MONTHS now). Each of the flags has something specific I want to invite more of in my life. They started out as a HUGE pile of papers and ephemera I've saved up over the years. I placed the papers and arranged them on canvas backing and then freeform machine stitched to secure them. Feel free to look at the project page - there's much more about them than I could fit on here. Smiley

This is what they started out as!!

And this is what they turned in to!

Whew! Alright. I'm done for tonight I think!
34  HOME SWEET HOME / Crafty Housewares: Completed Projects: General / Prayer Flag Collection on: February 08, 2013 05:48:14 PM

So one of the things I've wanted to do for a long, long time is create my own personalized set of prayer flags. For some reason, I've never been able to manage to do it until now. After crafting two flags for the prayer flag swap, I was inspired to finally create the collection I've been wanting. And boy - did they ever turn out nice!

Here's what the flags started as. I would call this one of the most ultimate de-stash projects I've ever done! That whole mess was almost completely used up, save for some little odds and ends. Miscellaneous scrapbooking paper and do-dads, some feathers and ephemera collected from little moments in my life, and some very special paper hand-printed my grandfather brought back from Tibet (I've been saving that paper just for these flags) - I wanted to use up as much of me in the flags as I could.

Here's the flags in my room - they're too big and my room is too small to fit them all in to one picture!

The two flags on either end of the string are the two flags I recieved for the ones I sent away in the prayer swap. They're what led to the string being created, so I wanted them to start and end it.

And here are the individual flags (there's 15 of them - one of them didn't make it through. My sewing machine tried to eat it up - and succeeded to some degree) . Each of the words is a quality I want to invite more of in to my life. The theory is that when you display them, the wind and the light mingle with the flags, and you allow more of these prayers in to the world (and in turn, the prayers come back to you - karma is beautiful sometimes).

Hope you enjoyed! Thanks for looking!

Noodle-bug~ Those dolls are so lovely! I loved the JJ swap. These dolls in particular made me quite jealous! Smiley AWesome job

Abbeeroad~ I LOVE that arm cuff. The little heart charm adds so much...well...charm! It's wonderful. My cat agrees - she's thoroughly inspecting it as I type this. Tongue

AugustBell~ That blanket is coming along so nicely! I LOVE LOVE LOVE the colours you have in it! They go together so nicely. Makes me want to snuggle under it.

MamanTattoo!
The Meridia costume is coming along so nicely! I want to put that wig on. Cheesy It's so cute and lovely.

Pottermouth ~ That Doctor Whoop (lol) is lovely! When I was living in the big city, my partner (a huge Who fan) swears he ran in to the new Doctor on the subway one day. Bowtie and all. He's still trying to get me in to the show - and now that they have it on Netflix (I spelled that as Newtflix - perhaps the Hogwarts version?) I think I'll be a Who fan soon enough...

SammyLouise ~ Those crafts are wonderful! The ron is ADORABLE and the cupcake - so tiny! I wanted a collection of tiny polymer food when I was younger. I'm a wee bit jealous. Tongue

CraftyLadyMJ ~ Your OWL is BEAUTIFUL! I love the red, black and white - such a simple, yet effective colour combination. I could cuddle under that blanket as well. Tongue

FreakieGeekie ~ Optical Illusion! Very nice shading on it! I remember when I was little, I would go on to this silly website that had THOUSANDS of them. I'd browse it - they seemed like magic to me. Smiley Great job! (and I've always seen both - I can never remember which one I saw first...)

(Alright. Now brace yourselves for crafty overload at some point during the day from me. I've been a busy girl - I had some serious catching up to do!)

I am in LOVE with these. The colours are just FANTASTIC. I am in awe of your bravery to wear them to the doctors office - although these seem like the kind of clothes that are just awesome enough to inspire confidence. Cheesy

Class: Care of Magical Creatures
House: Gryffindor
Project Name: Kneazle-inspired pretzels
Brief Description: So I've always wanted to make pretzels, and other than one woebegotten attempt a few years ago, I've been too intimidated to do it! Last night I finally worked up to courage to make a test batch. They were eaten up in about 3 minutes. So I made another batch (a dozen this time) and let the dough sit for a while to get that awesome stripey look! It reminds me of Crookshanks coat. I'm indulging in one as I write this - delish!

If you want to make some - here's the recipe I used - thank you pinterest!

39  ORGANIZED CRAFT SWAPS / The Swap Gallery / Re: Junker Jane Style Doll Swap GALLERY! on: January 29, 2013 08:56:07 PM
I recieved from onthinice yesterday, and I am in LOVE. Love, I say. I am so happy with the doll she made me - straight out of Junker Jane's antique animal menagerie. It's a crow, and a little lovely ring. Smiley

Sorry for the poor quality. There's very little light where I live now - needless to say I cannot WAIT until Spring!

Look at the feet! I am in LOVE with the texture and feel of them. And the little ring - it sparkles so much on my finger. Definitely something I could see this crow swooping in and stealing from some unsuspecting human. But now it's mine. Muahaha.

And I adore the fabric on the beak. Onthinice plays roller derby - something I am interested in getting in to, and I can see a bit of that kind of awesome, rebellious derby girl in the sparkly snakeskin beak. Totally awesome.

Thank you so, so SOOOOOO much, Onthinice. I love my JJ Raven so much! Smiley

So I recieved a BEAUTIFUL flag from flyraeven yesterday. I am SO in love. Between Wulf's magical wilderness flag, and this one - so much positive, wild, amazing energy is filling my room with these. She chose one of my most treasured words 'Enchant' - and the flag does just that. Smiley I am so, so happy. Thank you so much, flyraeven.

I also opened my package to find a Wild Turkey feather tucked in to it. I've been collecting feathers for about a year now, adding them to my little sacred spaces in my house, so this is a wonderful addition. She said she found it on the ground the day she was shipping my flag, and thought it belonged in my package. How magical.

Yay!
