1  KNITTING / Knitting: Completed Projects / Sweater virgin no more! on: February 22, 2005 03:50:06 PM
So I took the leap and made my first sweater. The pattern is from knitty.com and it's called Sitcom Chic. It's nothing spectacular but I think it's pretty respectable for a first try. And I even changed the patten a little bit- it had a row of eyelets across the chest and shoulders but I didn't like it so I just knit a couple of purl rows on the knit side to make a decorative "ridge".

Here it is lying flat

And here I am wearing it (I actually wore it out in public today!)

And I have a question for you guys-- what's the best way to block a garment that's made out of cotton yarn? I steam blocked this sweater and it really didn't seem to do much... I was hoping I would be able to even out the structure a bit more. Any suggestions?
2  HOME SWEET HOME / Crafty Housewares: Completed Projects: General / Beaded clock on: January 30, 2005 01:01:27 PM
Here's a clock I made using seed beads. The base is a piece of matboard and I glued the seed beads to that using regular ol' elmers glue. It took a really long time because I basically glued one bead at a time, but I think it was worth it 'cause I love the results. It used to be hung on the wall, but now it's on a shelf and I used a metal plate rack to prop it up.

And here's a close-up

Let me know what ya think...
3  PURSES, BAGS, WALLETS / Purses, Bags, Wallets: Completed Projects: General / Mama purse & baby purse on: January 30, 2005 12:45:22 PM
Here are a couple of bags I've made using the same fabric. It's from the Temple Flowers collection by Amy Butler- I absolutely love her stuff! I've actually made three different bags using this fabric combination but I gave the third one away before I could get a picture of it.

Here's the bigger "mama" bag, it's a messenger style bag

And a shot of the inside lining fabric and the zipper pocket (made possible by one of the great tutorials on this site)

And here's the "baby" bag

Thanks for looking!
4  KNITTING / Projects from the Stitch 'N B**ch Books by Debbie Stoller / Fluffy Cuff Mittens w/ Matching Scarf & Hat on: December 28, 2004 07:55:11 PM
Hi all.  Here's a set of winter weather goodies I made.

All three- hat, scarf, & mittens

The Fluffy Cuff Mittens from SnB. I used Lamb's Pride Bulky for the body of the mitten and Lion Brand Landscapes for the cuff. I've been wearing them for a couple of weeks so that's why they look not-so-pristine.

And here's a close-up of the scarf- it's a checkerboard pattern. The scarf is all Landscapes.

And the hat is the two hour hat pattern from ChicKnit. It turned out a little bit bigger than I prefer, but it works. It took one ball of the Landscape yarn.

Thanks for looking!
5  NEEDLEWORK / Needlework: Completed Projects / Lighthouse cross-stitch on: December 27, 2004 07:16:58 AM
I did this cross-stitch for my grandma for Christmas- she collects lighthouses. It's nothing fancy and it just came in a kit, but I'm pretty proud of the way it turned out and my grandma loved it.

6  IMAGE REPRODUCTION TECHNIQUES / Stenciling: Completed Projects / Mr. T & Transformers on: December 27, 2004 07:00:12 AM
These t-shirts were my first stenciling projects. I made them for my husband for Christmas.

And the close-ups...

7  KNITTING / Knitting: Completed Projects / All my knitted xmas gifts on: December 27, 2004 06:40:18 AM
Hi everyone. This is my first post, but I've been inspired by this site for quite a while. Now that Christmas is over I finally have time to post all the gifts I made, so here they are...

Scarf for my mom made of boucle yarn

Two scarfs of Homespun yarn

A ribbed scarf of Cascade

And the last one (can't remember what this yarn was)

And here are a couple of non-scarf items.
This is a mini-marsupial bag from SnB

And I made a putter cover for my husband

Let me know what you guys think. I love how everyone here is so supportive!
