1  CLOTHING / Costumes: Discussion and Questions / Help on simple dress, please? on: July 13, 2011 07:13:45 AM
Embarrassed I know this probably is going to make me seem completely clueless about sewing...

Can anyone help me think of how to recreate this dress from Vampire Knight, worn by the character Sara Shirabuki? Roll Eyes

I'll link some scans that depict the dress:
Most of the dress:
http://www.mangareader.net/104-33723-20/vampire-knight/chapter-54.html
(She's on the bottom of the page, closest to the left with her head down)

Close up on neckline:
http://www.mangareader.net/104-33723-19/vampire-knight/chapter-54.html
(On the bottom right-hand)

I know it's quite simple but when I look at that neck strap thing, it's really intimidating. Oh and does anyone know what kind of shape those beads are (as in what they're called if I have to hunt them down in a shop) and how you would attach them onto the strap?

Thanks  Smiley

I'm kind of inspired by Gibbous Fashions. There's just something charming about patching up vintage findings.

Anyway, I'm thinking about making a dress and I have the Willow Gown in mind:

The thing is, I'm not even sure where to start. I've never made a dress before. The only things I've sewed are pants and skirts...and for hair accessories... so I'm not very experienced. Help... please?  Cry

Thanks so much for your thoughts. I would really like it if you drew it out because it's really confusing trying to read it. Cheesy If that is okay with you...
I get the ribbon and the attaching the hare part but everything about the tinsel is making my head spin.  Huh

Smiley Aw... I should make something like this some other time.
It's really pretty  Shocked

I believe the turquoise beaded one is by Chan Luu (just google it up).

I hope this is the right board to ask...  Undecided
I'm talking about the silvery one with the beaded hare worn with the Christmas tree dress in Slughorn's Christmas party,
in Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince.

I can't seem to find any close-up pictures of the bracelet though.

It is also discussed in one of the DVD extras, which you can see on Youtube:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GBueA7A4bg8

So basically what I wanted to ask is:
1. What is that silvery stuff?
2. How would you make it or think it is made? If you can find a tutorial on the net somewhere or briefly explain it, that'll be great.
3. If this had been discussed on another board, can you post the link? I did a search but I couldn't find anything.
Thanks so much if you could help!

6  CLOTHING / Costumes: Discussion and Questions / Cosplay help? on: May 30, 2010 01:27:10 AM
I've been thinking about cosplaying Ciel Phantomhive in Kuroshitsuji (Black Butler). It's the ballroom version where he dresses as a girl.

Could anyone help me?  Huh
I'm so confused about the pink part of the dress and the hat. Tips and suggestions would be greatly appreciated. It'd also be great if someone could name the technique used too.

Shocked They're beautiful! I wish I had the patience and the talent to make them. I really like the flower ones but I like the cherry blossoms the best (the first one). I also like the hydrangea but for some odd reason, I like the kanzashi with hanging flowers more.

Grin They are so... pretty and shiny! My favourite is the "Forget Me Knot" ring but the "Flowering Lotus" ring is also good. I wonder how you make them...

Cheesy Wow... they're really pretty but I'm not the kind who would wear hairpins. I love the silver and the golden ones the best but they're all good.
