21  CLOTHING / Costumes: Discussion and Questions / Question about fabric ie 'breathing' factor. on: June 13, 2009 03:58:28 AM
I'm making a costume with an all-over head. As I'll be wearing this costume for a good 6 - 8 hours, with only one or two opportunities to take it off for a break, I'm using mesh and minimal foam as a base for easy breathability (if that's a word lol) but I'm wondering about the fabric to use on top. I'd rather not use cotton, as it doesn't create the soft, short-furred look I'm going for; like the shortness of staffordshire bull terrier fur.

I was thinking fleece, or possibly velvet or velour, but I don't know how well such fabrics breathe. Any suggestions - or recommendations for substitutions of these fabrics - are gratefully received Smiley
22  CLOTHING / Clothing: Discussion and Questions / Newbie needs help; overalls modification and pattern drafting on: April 29, 2009 12:46:37 AM
Hello all of ya'll!

I want to make a romper/jumpsuit as casual wear. My boyfriend wears overalls to work and I can use one of them to draft a pattern or modify the ones that are too small for him (though personally I'd rather draft a pattern because the one that's too small for him is very comfortable for me lol Grin ).

Can anyone point me in the right direction? I'm not sure how to draft a pattern and thought that maybe someone here might know an easy way to do it.

Thanks in advance!

23  CLOTHING / Costumes: Discussion and Questions / Newbie needs help! Hoop skirt effect for cosplay. on: April 26, 2009 12:23:16 PM
My boyfriend and I are going to the London anime expo as Syaoran and Sakura from Card Captor Sakura  Cheesy

But Sakura's outfit has a jacket with a hoop skirt effect at the bottom. Since I'm such a total newbie I don't know what material to use for boning the edge so that it stands out by itself. Can anyone help a n00b-in-need?
