your best bet is to find a cheap ugly umbrella and carefully remove the fabric, then use the old fabric as a pattern for your new funky fabric.
i made a cute parasol this way once.

23  CLOTHING / Costumes: Completed Projects / Re: Bellydance costumes (tribal/tribaret/casual) on: June 21, 2007 07:47:16 PM
I am in love with these belts. I've been inspired to start belly dancing purely because of my infatuation with the costumes, and these are making me itchy to go practice so I can have an excuse to wear something as pretty as those!!
24  CROCHET / Crochet: Completed Projects / Re: an array of crocheted squares on: June 18, 2007 09:24:55 AM

i think the reason your circles are ruffled is that you are increasing too much on each round.
25  OCCASIONS AND HOLIDAYS / Baby Showers And Gifts For New Babies / Re: How to turn a bed canopy into pirate sails? on: December 16, 2006 11:52:25 AM
oh oh oh! i have the perfect image of how this could work in my brain, maybe I can explain it;

cut sail shapes from the canopy, then sew a small channel along the bottom of each one. thread some sort of thin dowel or plasic tube through the channel. then securely attach the sails to the ceiling, and finally(and here is where it looks super cool in my head) take some mono-filiment and attach it to the bottom of the sails, then run it up to the ceiling to hold the bottom of the sail up alittle so it looks like there is wind in the sails.

im not sure if it would look the same in real life as it does in my head, but if it worked it would look pretty sweet

i used to make the paper staws out of gift wrap ribbon, the kind you see around christmas that is wide and usually comes in a set of a bunch of colours. its the perfect width and thickness. i have to start making these, they are so relaxing

pregnant here too, a little bit of a "whoops!" but i'm soooo excited. I've started knitting a baby blanket, its going to have red and black squares and its made out of this super soft sports weight yarn, the knitting is certinly helping me chill.  I've been looking for other ideas too, the baby sling looks great, i'll probibly make a few of those, and i've decided to learn to knit in the round so i can make some hats(since im due in mid January).  the crafting bug has bit me hard!
