I finally got around to making my daughter a quilt. It is simple and light-weight and my daughter absolutely loves it. I used yellow gingham? pattern, multi-colored stars on a sky-like background and nintendo fabric for the front and a soft green flannel for the back. Daddy helped pick out the fabric and once he saw the nintendo fabric I knew we'd be buying it : )

my brother got a new laptop and I wanted to get him a cool protective cover for it. the problem was that they were all boring or girlie, but the store had these plain black ones super cheap ($5 if I remember right) and figured that was cheaper than buying the padding and zipper so I got that and some skull fabric & matching ribbon and decorated it.

the front: I glued the fabric on and put the ribbon on to "clean up" the edges. it looked a bit dull like that so I cut out some skulls with pinking shears and glued them on at different angles


the back: I had some skulls left over so I put a couple on the back as well

Now that we are finally near water that is safe and pleasant to swim in, we needed some beach towels. The problem was that my husband absolutely hated every single design in the store and I hated how expensive they were. So I came up with the idea of making some from regular towels. He got to pick out the color and design, which made him happy and they were a lot cheaper this way so I was happy. As a bonus, our daughter can have a matching towel of her own. We got 3 regular sized bath towels (2 solid and 1 stripe) for ours and 1 of each color of hand towels for hers. I cut the striped towels in half and sewed them onto the solid towels. Unfortunately they unravel very very easily so no matter what stitch I seemed to use it wasn't enough to securely hold them together so I added the ribbon. That solved the problem and added a nice touch to the look. They end up being super long but I love it because it can completely and securely wrap around me, my husband likes it because it gives you plenty of room to lay stuff either at your feet or above your head if you are using it to lay on.

I wanted to make some baby shoes that would cover her feet but would still allow her to move her foot naturally so I used this pattern: http://stardustshoes.blogspot.com/2006/10/cloth-shoe-pattern.html  They are cute shoes but the pattern is for 0-6 months and my daughter is 11 months and walking so adjustments were made. I will have to do more adjusting for the next pair now that I know what needs to be different. I used an old tank top for the upper pieces and inside of the sole because the fabric had a bit of a stretch, breath-ability and was soft. The soles are from my husband's old uniform doubled up for added protection and durability. I used some sparkly 3D fabric paint on the soles for traction. I added a bow to make them a bit more "girly". I definitely learned a lot while making them and I can't wait to make some more!

We have a lot of old uniforms lying around taking up too much space, so I've been making things out of them.  The fabric is great since it is durable and relatively water and stain resistant making them great for bags. My father-in-law wanted some shopping tote bags but the problem is the ones you can buy at the grocery stores are too big for him to carry so I made him these. They are small but can still hold a good amount and the handles are short so they don't drag on the ground when he carries them. This only my second time posting so I hope I do this right. : )

hopefully i'm posting this in the right place. this is my first posting. I made it last night.  I am 6 1/2 months pregnant with a deployed hubby.  I went researching yesterday on how to make a good preggo pillow that will support my belly and back. I found the snoogle online but man is that expensive! figured i'd make my own. while trying to draw up a pattern (not my strong point) i realized all i needed was a "v" shape. looking at my mountain of fabric i spied a pair of my hubby's old uniform bottoms. well..that got me thinking. an hour later this is what i ended up with. I tried it out last night and it worked perfectly! the best part is the top isn't super stuffed so when i needed to get in and out of bed (like i do so much at night) all i had to do was fold the leg up! much easier than struggling out of the stupid thing! lol it is basic but i thought it was cute and my hubby got a real laugh out of it.
