131  CROCHET / Crochet: Discussion and Questions / Favorite Crochet books? on: April 17, 2009 01:10:00 PM
Hey all,

I LOVE buying crochet/knitting books and have been looking at some books on amazon recently and wanted to know what all the avid hookers here have found helpful.

I mostly crochet amigurumi but I am interested in branching out. My favorite book is Kyuuto! Japanese Crafts Amigurumi. I also have Crocheting School: A Complete Course which I have found very helpful when I am trying to figure out a technique i am unfamiliar with or just to learn the basics (i didn't realize i was doing some basic things wrong until i read it). I also got 24 Hour Crochet Projects from my beau. A lot of the patterns in it are a little frumpy for my tastes but they have a few cute projects. Lastly, Creepy Cute Crochet which I know a lot of members here enjoy. I havn't finished any of them yet but it is just a really cute book.

What books do you recommend? I'm interested in 100 Flowers to Knit and Crochet does anyone have that?

I really love your work. I would like to know what you use to make these, too. Embroidery floss or yarn?

Also, I stumbled upon this book on amazon the other day after seeing your work and wondered if you have any knowledge of it? I would love to have some flower crochet patterns: http://www.amazon.com/100-Flowers-Knit-Crochet-Embellishing/dp/0312538340/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1239997483&sr=8-1

For the orchids I like them the size shown but i think it would charming to do them smaller with a few more on a necklace. Do both! That's one of the lovely things about orchids, they come in so many sizes and colors! I am partial to these green and burgundy types that have kind of a gourd shape.

Suggestion: Weeping hearts. I love these flowers and i think they would be a great necklace flower if you could figure out how to make them! I think my favorite is the fuschias. Thanks so much for sharing your work! you have inspired many of us.

They're beautiful! I particularly like the red one (cool yarn!) and the turquoise one with the flowers. I love flowers on hats! Crocheting hats is so rewarding, i love the quick time period.

I dig! I like the pattern and color combination. Good job! Smiley
135  CROCHET / Amigurumi: Completed Projects / Re: That was a hoot! Heffer Wolfe from Rocko's Modern Life (with pattern) on: April 16, 2009 12:52:03 PM
I LOVE this. Rocko's Modern Life is one of my most favorite cartoons. Right now I am tackling a Flapjack doll (from the Marvelous Misadventures of Flapjack on cartoon network -hi-larious if you havn't watched) any pointers?

Great work! Make Spunky next!

I like the stitching on the back of the first one and the swirly edges of the second one. Also, the colors of the second one are very pretty Smiley Good work! I would totally wear these.

Gorgeous! I like the details of the cord.
138  CROCHET / Amigurumi: Completed Projects / Re: Piggy + Birdies on: April 16, 2009 12:39:18 PM
I love them ! The pig is too cute! Little animals like this are my favorite thing to crochet. Nice nails, BTW.

Fudpen10 it's pretty easy to teach yourself to crochet, and it's easier and faster then knitting. You can make cute little crocheted animals with just Single crochet, increase and decrease stitches.
139  CROCHET / Amigurumi: Completed Projects / Re: cthulu called and i crocheted on: April 16, 2009 12:32:50 PM
It looks great!

I have Creepy Cute, too but havn't really completed any of the projects. I find that for some of the dolls the accoutrements (like cthulu's tentacles, for example) are a little confusing for a relatively new crocheter like myself. Also, if you are unfamiliar with circular crocheting that isn't a spiral that can be a little confusing, too. There is a good variety of difficulties, though. The ninja and the grim reaper are pretty easy, those are the two that I have tried. I would suggest using something to weigh the bottom of the body as the book suggests, or you will have to hang them because they don't sit up.

I still enjoy the book; if nothing else it is great for inspiration.
