1  REUSING/RECYCLING/RECRAFTING / What the heck can I do with THIS? / Re: big blue vodka bottles on: January 13, 2011 06:48:37 AM
whatever you decide to do with them, when you're done, you could buy a bottle tree for the garden or patio and put the rest on there.  they're really popular in south mississippi, and they're really pretty when the light hits the bottles.  here's a picture:
(* mine is inside, because i'm still an apartment dweller, but my boyfriend's mom offered to buy me one & i couldn't pass up the opportunity, so i'm saving for when i have a yard.  i'm sure you could find a way to craft one by driving metal bars into a wooden stake or something if you can't find one to buy, then just secure in the ground with concrete...?)

sorry the pic is small of the actual tree. this is a pic i took for my mom to show her the apartment; it's the only bottle tree pic i have at the moment. heh.

4  MORE ART, LESS CRAFT / More Art, Less Craft: Completed Works / Re: Favorite Drawings from my Life Drawing Class on: January 12, 2011 08:13:38 PM
i love them all!  in my beginner class a long time ago we had this macgyver type teacher  who was older and set in his ways of doing things.  the only thing he would let us use was a pencil. no erasers, no ANYTHING other than a pencil.  i HATED it at first, but now it's the only way i can draw.  he would only let us use eraser to clean up our drawing afterwards.  annnyway, the pencil he suggested we use is "design ebony"... they're at hobby lobby in packs of two for like, $1.  in case you haven't tried them, you may want to give them a go.   trick is to constantly sharpen.  they make really rich, dark lines (and nice light ones too) and look really good with a sharp tip.  only reason i say this is that i would never know they existed if i didn't take that class, and i ended up loving them. again, nice drawings & keep it up! some people have natural ability to do things like draw, but never practice, and never get any better.  some of the coolest artwork i've seen was art i had to help set up at school submitted largely by non art majors. if you enjoy doing it, just do it!  Smiley <3
5  POTTERY, CERAMICS, POLYMER CLAY / Pottery, Ceramics, etc: Completed Projects / Re: my ceramic deer antlers on: January 12, 2011 07:33:08 PM
i saw someone on etsy who makes antlers out of paper mache.  they looked really delicate and translucent looking.  just an idea Smiley i may try paper ones next, seeing as how i don't have a studio yet & i'm not taking any ceramics classes until this fall. bummer. Sad
6  POTTERY, CERAMICS, POLYMER CLAY / Pottery, Ceramics, etc: Completed Projects / my ceramic deer antlers on: January 12, 2011 07:17:34 PM
i made this for a project in ceramics where we had to use the clay extruder to make a hollow form.  i made them "girly" because it's completely opposite of what first comes to my mind when i think of hunting- dark colors, camo, etc.
hope y'all enjoy! (so the pic doesn't confuse anyone- they're laying on the floor on my ikea rug.  i haven't been able to hang them anywhere.  honestly, i kind of want to bag them up and save for when i have a studio so they don't get dusty or dirty.)

(i bejeweled parts of the antlers and charms that you can't quite see in that photo.)

this wardrobe was my grandpa's.  i never met him, but it's all i have of him, so i couldn't let go of it.  however, it had horrible scratches and peeling varnish, so i gave it a makeover and polished it up as much as i could.
before:
(i know the quality is bad in this one and it's hard to see, but anyhow...)

and viola!

our bed, diy stretch fabric canvas, and cat (minus the new shelves i put in recently)

the best i can do for now without being able to paint our drab apartment walls. sigh.
