1  CLOTHING / Shoes: Completed Projects / Re: neon makes me happy :) on: April 15, 2011 10:31:48 AM
Thanks everyone!

These shoes were so satisfying to finish, since it was simple but made a HUGE difference in how much I love them.
Glad you all seem to like them too Smiley
2  CLOTHING / Shoes: Completed Projects / neon makes me happy :) on: March 12, 2011 07:12:12 PM

I was inspired by the awesome shoe tutorial i saw here...
http://www.dirtyhems.com/2011/01/dirty-hems-diy-neon-sole-heels.html

And decided that i had to have a pair of neon soled pumps!
(Sorry in advance for the slightly blurry pics)

I started with these:

I've had these heels forever! If you can't tell, they are suede, with a wood finish on the bottom that was wearing off.
You can see it better in this picture:

So after sanding, priming, and painting about 5 coats, I ended up with these pretties:

let me know what you think! C&C welcomed Smiley
thanks!

I would love to do this swap! HOWEVER, I am leaving to go out of the country for a month beginning on July 9th.  Would anyone be willing to send a kit early? Maybe even a kit that is sized for travel, so I could take it on the 13 (!!!) hour plane ride to Taiwan?

If anyone is interested, I could make kits for:
1. Miniature tile jewelry
2. Beaded/Charm/Chain-work Jewelry
3. Tree of Life Pendants
4. Basic cross-body purse kit
5. Reconstructed jewelry kit

I would love to learn
1. Basic (and I mean waaaay basic) Crochet
2. Tatting
3. Knitting
4. Resin pendants
5. Amigurumi

Thanks, I will try to find some smaller needles.  I'm assuming a ball point needle is exactly what it sounds like? It just has a rounded rather than pointed tip?
8  SEWING IN GENERAL / Sewing Machines: Discussion and Questions / tension issues with light fabric on: June 14, 2010 12:53:28 PM
Hello,

I am a fairly new sewer, and have hit a very frustrating problem.  I am reconstructing a dress that is made of very light "chiffon-like" polyester.  I know that this means that I need to use a different tension than if I were sewing something like denim, so I have been trying to find the right tension setting.  I have tried adjusting needle size (I think I settled on a 12 or 14?), adjusting the thread tension, cleaning the machine, and using different speed and tension on the fabric itself.  The main problem I am having is that the fabric is bunching up badly as I run it through the machine, no matter what speed I use.  Then, if I try and straighten out the seam, all the threads pop, and it's gotten soooooo frustrating.

If you have any ideas on how to fix this, please help!!

Thanks!
9  JEWELRY AND TRINKETS / Trinkets and Jewelry: Completed Projects: General / Re: Kanzashi from vintage silk! on: June 11, 2010 10:59:08 AM
these are AMAZING.  i've seen some beautiful kanzashi before, but that ivory piece is the most gorgeous i have ever seen.  I seriously applaud the patience needed for a flower of that size and detail level. INCREDIBLE.

(ps, definitely hitting this rocks!)
