11  Re: Wee House Craftalong-Ongoing 2011 in Craftalongs by blue_lalita on: October 18, 2011 07:42:24 PM
I've been a busy little bee! I finished the interior walls and floors:

I also made some apothecary bottles out of beads:

And a whole bunch of food, dishes, etc.:

My house is inhabited by a gypsy who's settled down and sells potions, herbs, etc. from her house.  The bottom floor is going to be a living room/shop and kitchen, and the top floor is going to be a sitting room and bedroom.  I moved the opening in the top floor because it really annoyed me that it was right in front of the doorway, but I haven't decided if I'm going to tackle a circular staircase or just make a ladder.

12  Can you help me figure out how to make this vest? in Clothing: Discussion and Questions by blue_lalita on: July 29, 2011 12:55:08 PM
My mom called me the other day and asked me to turn a show on so I could see the host's vest - and make her one. I didn't actually see a full-length shot of it, but did find a  clip online, and got a pretty bad screenshot of it:

Now, I don't make clothes very often, so I'm not sure why my mom thought I would be able to make this for her, but I'd really like to give it a shot! I have some questions about it, and hoped someone could point me in the direction of a pattern, directions, or even the actual garment so I could get a better look at it. This is the clip: http://www.king5.com/on-tv/evening-magazine/Retro-Video-Games-Bringing-Back-the-Past-126290518.html.  The full length shot is very brief, at the very beginning after the ad.

It looks to me like this is made of a knit fabric, and I think it's just a large, loose vest that's only connected at the bottom - does that sound right? One thing I'm confused about is that my mom (who saw her wear it in another, presumably longer piece) said it was "twisted" on the bottom and looked "like a cowl neck", but to me it just looks like the ends are overlapped, and hanging down a little, probably sewn onto a tighter waistband. Does that sound right? I'm also wondering how it would stay on up on the shoulders, since it looks so loose and blousy - would the back not have extra fabric, to keep it from sliding down the arms? Or is it just kind of clinging to itself and the shirt beneath to stay in place? Any guidance would be very much appreciated!

13  Re: Beginners inchies (& and ATC) round 2 Gallery. Send outs 6th June in The Swap Gallery by blue_lalita on: June 11, 2011 10:14:58 AM
I received my last set of inchies yesterday from IndieCraft.

I LOVE this ATC! It's a great quote from the TV show "Firefly."  The inchies are also really cool - they're all hand drawn/colored.  Thank you IndieCraft!

I received from mandys_momma yesterday!

I love the inchie on the bottom left - it's got an adorable little bear on it! The birch one is really cool too - it's an actual piece of bark that's been lacquered.  Thank you mandys_momma!

15  Fresh gray bathroom in Interior Decorating: Completed Projects by blue_lalita on: June 01, 2011 08:16:57 PM
My husband and I just bought our first house, and I was SO excited to finally be able to paint the walls! (Now that I'm done with one room, I'm less excited to do all the others...)

Our upstairs (main) bathroom is the only room that's completely done - I tackled it first because it's the only room I actually knew how I wanted to decorate before we moved in.  I've wanted a gray bathroom for a REALLY long time.  I think the color's just clean, fresh, and relaxing.  I painted the walls a light bluish gray, the ceiling a very light gray, and the trim bright white.

This is a quick before picture I took after I took down the mirror and discovered that a) the room used to be bruise purple, and b) the painters did a really bad job.

Besides painting, I added the privacy film to the window, we replaced the light and other fixtures (which were antiqued brass and splattered with paint) with shiny chrome ones, and I sewed a matching fabric border on the towels and shower curtain:

The bath mats are memory foam, and soooo amazingly comfortable! I highly recommend them. I bought one at Bed Bath & Beyond and one at Big Lots.

I love this lantern I found at TJMaxx.  The shelf was in our bedroom at our old apartment, I thought it looked good in here.

Overall I'm really happy with my lovely new bathroom, but also very glad I'm finally done with it!

I received from jmiller614 today! And I was actually able to find my camera AND the cord!

The ATC is from Rent, the musical we both love excessively.  It's a quote from the song "One Song Glory," and I can't wait to show it to my husband because he signs it ALL the time! Love it!

One set of inchies combines my trees and seasons themes, and the other is in my "splash of color" theme.

Thank you so much jmiller614!

18  Re: Ongoing Wish Swap 66 Gallery in The Swap Gallery by blue_lalita on: February 01, 2011 07:40:14 AM
I received an amazing package from jemimah yesterday!

First is this adorable felt tree stump pin cushion:

She also made me another pincushion with a world map drawn on it (I have a thing for maps, which she must have remembered from when we were partners in the first round of the Hoopla Swap). She marked our locations with pins! It's so pretty, I don't think I'm actually going to use it!

And, as a bonus, she sent me a peacock pendant to use in my bellydance costuming!

Thank you jemimah!

I received from atsuko on Thursday.  She sent me a gorgeous tree of life pendant!

She also sent me this yummy seafoam green handspun yard that she received in a swap some time ago:

This is the first handspun yarn I've owned, and it's so pretty! I'm not sure what I'm going to do with it yet.

Thanks atsuko!
