1  ORGANIZED CRAFT SWAPS / The Swap Gallery / Steampunk Charm swap gallery on: June 03, 2010 05:54:47 AM

Post your pretties here!
2  JEWELRY AND TRINKETS / Trinkets and Jewelry: Completed Projects: General / Game piece bracelet: ALL MINE!!! on: May 24, 2010 04:58:58 PM
Let me preface this post by saying that I never make things for myself. I spend tons of money on supplies and then use them all on swaps. Occasionally I make things for people I know, but never for myself.

Well, I've decided to turn over a new leaf.

Last week was finals week for the spring semester. So I crammed as I have never crammed before. I learned enough Business Math in one day to maintain a B in the class (.7 % away from an A!). As I left the test, mentally exhausted, I knew I must do the only thing that soothes my frazzled nerves.

I went craft shopping. At Hobby Lobby, (conveniently placed only a block away from to college campus) I found the cutest little aged mahjong tiles and dice. I bought them for me and vowed to go back home right that moment and make something for myself.

Well, instead I stayed at Hobby Lobby for about another 30 minutes and then went out for ice cream. But finally, at 9 pm I went home and made myself this bracelet!

I love it. It's not so bulky as to bother me when I wear it. It's on stretch magic cord, so it moves with me. And because it is for me, I used a lot of my favorite color, green! Cheesy Other than the mahjong tiles and dice, it's stash. I'm addicted to craft shopping, so I have a lot of stash!

Details of swap: STEAMPUNK CHARM SWAP
Each member of this swap will make 7 charms in the steampunk style and mail 6 of them on to her 6 partners. This should be a quick and easy swap with little stress.

What is steampunk style? Wikipedia describes steampunk art as items that “employ appropriate materials (such as polished brass, iron, and wood) with design elements and craftsmanship consistent with the Victorian era.” So gears, old keys, locks, pieces of clockwork…basically whatever looks technologically appropriate for Britain under the reign of good Queen Bess.

1. Each charm should be no larger than 1 inch squared.

2. Each charm should have a jump ring attached.

3. Swappers can make their charms all the same for all 6 partners (sweat shop style) or all different or any combination of same and different.

4. Swappers can feel free to make a personal arrangement with their partners to swap more than 1 charm, but this is optional and not required for the swap.

5. Swappers can request charms to match their vision for their finished piece, but this is no guarantee they will receive charms that fit their theme. (For example, a swapper could say: I plan to make a charm necklace with copper findings in the theme of “celestial steampunk” with moons and stars and gears. Partners could choose to work with this theme or not.)

6. Each charm should be mailed securely to make sure that it will not be damaged. Wrap it in bubble wrap, tape up the envelope securely and write “non machinable” on the envelope.

7. Delivery confirmation is required for this swap. Ye Olde Craftster Mods say ‘anything that canst have delivery confirmation, shallst have delivery confirmation.’ The fact that our envelopes will have something lumpy in them makes them delivery confirmationable.

8. Because I just completed my business math class, I will now do a little calculation for your enjoyment. Cheesy Let us assume we all ship in large envelopes weighing 3 ounces including our charms.

Cost for shipping = (price of shipping + non-machinable charge + Delivery Confirmation) * 6
Cost for shipping = (1.22 + .20 + .70) * 6
Cost for shipping = (2.12) * 6
Cost for shipping = 12.72

This is of course only a rough estimate of shipping to 6 partners from US to US, but you get the idea. Make sure you have fundage!

4  MISCELLANEOUS TOPICS / Completed Projects / Fabric Bookcover, or "No, I'm not reading a romance novel"... on: March 09, 2010 08:25:07 PM
I just remembered that one of my coworkers has a birthday coming up. We both like reading romance novels, but there are certain situations where you just don't want to advertise what you are reading. And I have a box of fabric someone gave me. Thus, this fabric book cover! Here are some pics.

And the color is a little bit more true in this picture:

I hope she likes it. I will probably make one for myself sometime...if I ever get time to make something for myself.

6  Calls for Swap Angels / Swap Angel Archive / New Member needed for the Princess Bride swap (5pt) on: February 15, 2010 04:56:11 AM
Unfortunately one of the Princess Bride participants has been hurt and her partner will need a replacement partner. FoxySam, the participant that needs a new partner, hasn't mailed her package yet, but she does have a swap package prepared that you (her new partner) would receive in return. Here is some information about Foxy Sam.

Princess Bride (“PB”) questions:
Who are your favorite PB characters?
Inigo Montoya, Fezzik, Dread Pirate Roberts/Westley, Miracle Max and Wife Valerie, Buttercup...

Who are your least favorite PB characters?
Probably all the true badies in the story (o=, I don't count Inigo or Fezzik in the badies list as they didn't really want to do it in the first place and helped after a bit too (o=

What are your favorite PB quotes?
"True Love" "As You Wish" "My name is Inigo Montoya, you killed my father, prepare to die" "Death cannot stop true love, it can only delay it for a while"
"Life is pain highness, anyone who says otherwise is selling something" "We are men of action, lies do not become us" "chocolate coating makes it go down easier" "Well who says life is fair, where is that written..." "Your brains, Fezzik's strength and my steel" "Bye, bye boys'  'have fun storming the castle', 'think it will work'...'it would take a miracle"  oh so many great quotes!!! And many more... (o=

Have you read the Princess Bride book?
No I am sorry to say I have not, but I must do something about that in the near future...update...a m now currently reading it from the library (o=
If so, what were your favorite parts?
If not, would you be interested in reading the book and/or receiving book related items?

I would prefer hand crafted stuff please if that's okay, especially as I can get the book easily from the local library, they have several copies (o=

How old were you when you first watched the movie?
ooo crikey a hard question, not sure but very young, watched it with my Mum as a littlie then again and again and again as life wore on (o=

Do you have any specific memories of watching the movie to share?
Not really, just love watching it, always makes me laugh

What type of crafts do you do?
Crochet, sewing, polymer clay, scrapbooking, some jewelry beading...

What type of crafts would you like to receive? (ex, knitting, image transfers, etc)
umm...as only my second swap don't overly have a preference, love any hand made things...anythings you like to make...see next question for more (o=

What type of items do you enjoy receiving? (ex, totes, shirts, necklaces, etc)
totes/bags, creatures, boxes, altered books, books, magnets, pins/badges,  shirts, necklaces/bracelets, you name it and I would probably love it (o=

Do you wear jewelry?
Yes
If so, what types?
Necklaces, bracelets, (I don't have my ears peirced so no need for ear-rings)

Would you like to receive PB themed clothing?
If so, list any sizes relevant to items you would enjoy receiving (ex: Tshirt size, large, etc):
Sure, am pretty open to anything really.  Sizewise it kinda depends on how big the big are if that makes sense, normally large to x-large though in some mens small-medium-large 14-16-18 NZ womens (once again depends on how small the small are and how large the large are, lol)  (contact me if that doesn't help I can always take measurements to be more accurate)

What are your favorite colors? blue (light and dark) and yellow when used as a complementary colour, then purple/black, then brown&green, even red sometimes too

What colors do you not like?
I don't really like orange in great quantities but in right situations and combinations it's all good
7  IMAGE REPRODUCTION TECHNIQUES / Stenciling: Completed Projects / Labyrinth sweatshirt on: January 05, 2010 03:39:45 PM
This is a Labyrinth sweatshirt I made for myself. I imagined the design a several years ago, and looked all over the internet trying to find one like it to buy. There wasn't one, so I decided to make one. I'm not sure it's finished; I may stencil the Labyrinth logo down the arm.

And this is me wearing it!

9  ORGANIZED CRAFT SWAPS / New Swap Theme Ideas / Princess Bride: Round 2 Swap on: December 29, 2009 10:22:02 AM

FOLLOW THIS LINK TO JOIN THE SWAP!!! http://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=332390.0
I have done my research. It appears there was a Princess Bride round 1 back in 2006.

Then there was a thread started here in the New Swap Theme Ideas area in January of this year. There was a lot of interest; swappers were commenting in the thread until May of this year. But apparently it never happened.

I'm prepared to make it happen. Smiley I have hosted many swaps at other sites before and I'm confident in my ability to pull this off.

The question is when should be the send by date? I will post the swap sometime in January and probably end sign ups on February 14. (I work for the government, so I get February 15th off. I'll be able to assign partners then.)

Also, would you prefer a 5 or 6 point swap?
10  PURSES, BAGS, WALLETS / Purses, Bags, Wallets: Completed Projects: General / D10 Dice bag/stuffie on: December 23, 2009 07:26:54 PM
I saw dulcet's dice bag for her husband, http://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=322077.0 and at the very last minute I decided to make my brother a dice bag for Xmas. Like, yesterday, December 22. The only problem was that dulcet's bag looked really hard to make. So I did what I do best, and winged it. Smiley

I decided to make a d10 bag instead of a d20 bag, since my brother is just getting into Aberrant (a d10 based game by White Wolf). I also just sewed a simple bag shape to the inside instead of making a lining that was the same shape as the outside. I stuffed poly-fiberfill around the bag so it would always look like a d10. Finally, instead of putting in a zipper (oh horrors), I sewed in some snaps. It kind of messes up the way it looks, but I don't have time to rip it all out, so it'll do.
