1  Re: Doctor Who Swap - Round 2 Gallery in The Swap Gallery by goodmorningstarshine on: August 15, 2010 01:29:02 PM
Hey everyone, I know it's been a while, but I have received my sweet angel package from zilamonster (Kate) and thought you might all like to see!

Check out the goods! I have terrific smelling soap with two handmade washcloths. One has a bowtie and the word "cool" and the other has the new dr who symbol! The there is some sweet handmade paper. I tried to make this once but failed utterly. Next is a terrific necklace, which is perfect for me because it isn't too bulky. There are two pictures of my awesome "the angels have the yarn" yarn bowl; I've never had one before, but I've been using it this weekend while I crochet a baby blanket for my sister in law. Finally, the item I've been dying to have for ages but have been too cheap to buy for myself, the perfectly green colored handspun yarn! I love it so much! Kate bought it for me. Wink

Thank you so much, Kate, you are the best swap angel of all time!

Here is an update, based on PMs I've received. I'll need update feedback later if necessary, but I think we are currently up to date.

Alright, everyone please check out my crazy spreadsheet. Here is how it works:

1. Locate your name in the far left column. Going across the row with your name, the partners I have you down as receiving from are in blue. The partners I don't see that you've received from are in yellow. If you have received from any of the yellow partners, please pm me and I will update it.

2. Locate your name across the top of your group's column. Going down the column, the people who have received your charms are in blue, those who haven't are in yellow. If any of the yellow partners in your column have received from you, please send me the DC and I will check and update it.

3. If your name is in pink, that means all of your partners have received and you have received feedback. If your name is in pink, please check your profile...if you do not see that  you have 'positive' feedback for this swap (or there is any other problem) please pm me, and I will fix it. Also, in the first post of this thread your name will appear in yellow if you have received feedback.

I just realized that the tshirt I made for the Labyrinth swap didn't show up in the thread, so I'm going to try again. Here goes:

7  Game piece bracelet: ALL MINE!!! in Trinkets and Jewelry: Completed Projects: General by goodmorningstarshine on: May 24, 2010 04:58:58 PM
Let me preface this post by saying that I never make things for myself. I spend tons of money on supplies and then use them all on swaps. Occasionally I make things for people I know, but never for myself.

Well, I've decided to turn over a new leaf.

Last week was finals week for the spring semester. So I crammed as I have never crammed before. I learned enough Business Math in one day to maintain a B in the class (.7 % away from an A!). As I left the test, mentally exhausted, I knew I must do the only thing that soothes my frazzled nerves.

I went craft shopping. At Hobby Lobby, (conveniently placed only a block away from to college campus) I found the cutest little aged mahjong tiles and dice. I bought them for me and vowed to go back home right that moment and make something for myself.

Well, instead I stayed at Hobby Lobby for about another 30 minutes and then went out for ice cream. But finally, at 9 pm I went home and made myself this bracelet!

I love it. It's not so bulky as to bother me when I wear it. It's on stretch magic cord, so it moves with me. And because it is for me, I used a lot of my favorite color, green! Cheesy Other than the mahjong tiles and dice, it's stash. I'm addicted to craft shopping, so I have a lot of stash!

8  Re: another (old fashioned) random gallery!! in The Swap Gallery by goodmorningstarshine on: May 24, 2010 04:44:22 PM
I'm first, I'm first!

I need to warn you. There are going to be lots of pictures. Lots. And I am not going to spare you. Nope. I went out and took these pics in 90 degree heat, so you're going to look at every one of them. Prepare yourselves for the fabulousness that is: TheSapphireMoon!

First up, purchased goodies! She knew I loved clean scents and have an almost frightening obsession with minty lipgloss, so check it out!
I put some on, and I smell really good. And I'm eating lifesavers as I post this. Ah, sugary goodness to help me bare the pain that is photo hosting.

Next, jewelry! TSM sent me 3 lovely jewelry pieces. I shall try to use my photogenic and compositional skills to show you how fabulous they are.
This bracelet is very pretty, no? Cheesy

And look at this necklace...wait a tic. I look kind of squinty in the sunlight there. A bit doofy. And you can't see much of the necklace, either. Well, it's made of lovely green glass beads, you'll just have to take my word for it, because my husband and my dog were both to wussy to come out in the sunlight and help me take decent pictures.

Here is my most favorite piece. I'll be wearing it all the time. It's so sweet and small and I'll never notice that I'm wearing it. And I've figured out my problem from the last pic: I was shooting too high! Here, I'll compensate by angling the camera a little lower...

Holy Moly, that picture's half cleavage. That's it, jewelry is coming off! Here's a picture of them off me. That's better.

Okay, everyone see that blue fabric underneath the jewelry? That's my brand new tote bag! (I wrote that in game show announcer voice, just so you know.) The lining fabric is the same as the applique.

And look at my pretty new bookmarks! I love the lace and ribbon in the top!

Finally, la piece de resistance, wall art! The fact that I've been married for 2 years this Memorial day and still have done nothing to decorate pretty much says it all. I needed these pieces. Here is a beautiful button art rainbow!

And the pretty, pretty rainbow of trees!

They are both so completely me! I love them so much, and even my husband said he liked them (he has even less decorative vision than me)! Here they are in their new home, with not very good lighting.

Thank you so much TSM! I love my package; everything is just wonderful! Cheesy

Details of swap: STEAMPUNK CHARM SWAP
Each member of this swap will make 7 charms in the steampunk style and mail 6 of them on to her 6 partners. This should be a quick and easy swap with little stress.

What is steampunk style? Wikipedia describes steampunk art as items that “employ appropriate materials (such as polished brass, iron, and wood) with design elements and craftsmanship consistent with the Victorian era.” So gears, old keys, locks, pieces of clockwork…basically whatever looks technologically appropriate for Britain under the reign of good Queen Bess.

1. Each charm should be no larger than 1 inch squared.

2. Each charm should have a jump ring attached.

3. Swappers can make their charms all the same for all 6 partners (sweat shop style) or all different or any combination of same and different.

4. Swappers can feel free to make a personal arrangement with their partners to swap more than 1 charm, but this is optional and not required for the swap.

5. Swappers can request charms to match their vision for their finished piece, but this is no guarantee they will receive charms that fit their theme. (For example, a swapper could say: I plan to make a charm necklace with copper findings in the theme of “celestial steampunk” with moons and stars and gears. Partners could choose to work with this theme or not.)

6. Each charm should be mailed securely to make sure that it will not be damaged. Wrap it in bubble wrap, tape up the envelope securely and write “non machinable” on the envelope.

7. Delivery confirmation is required for this swap. Ye Olde Craftster Mods say ‘anything that canst have delivery confirmation, shallst have delivery confirmation.’ The fact that our envelopes will have something lumpy in them makes them delivery confirmationable.

8. Because I just completed my business math class, I will now do a little calculation for your enjoyment. Cheesy Let us assume we all ship in large envelopes weighing 3 ounces including our charms.

Cost for shipping = (price of shipping + non-machinable charge + Delivery Confirmation) * 6
Cost for shipping = (1.22 + .20 + .70) * 6
Cost for shipping = (2.12) * 6
Cost for shipping = 12.72

This is of course only a rough estimate of shipping to 6 partners from US to US, but you get the idea. Make sure you have fundage!

If you want to participate, information to send to organizer:

QUESTIONNAIRE TO ANSWER:
Name of swap
Craftster username
Email address
Your real name
Mailing address including the country
Would you be willing to ship to an address outside your own country?

What is your favorite color?
Which color findings do you prefer (gold, copper, silver, bronze, gunmetal, etc)?
Do you have any particular vision/material preferences you would like your partners to know about?
Anything else we need to know?

IF YOU WANT TO PARTICIPATE, REMEMBER TO SEND YOUR INFO TO ORGANIZER VIA PRIVATE MESSAGE AND NOT TO REPLY WITH IT HERE.

One last thing. I received this cool extra hair doodad, but I don't remember from which partner, since I received both packages the same day. I think it was wonderwoman, but my memory is not what it used to be. Cheesy I wore it to work last week and the mean boy mocked me. I hate that kid.
