41  Craft Swaps / ARCHIVE OF SWAPS THAT ARE TOTALLY FINISHED / Re: Frugal Living Swap 2: Return of the Cheap (SIGNUPS CLOSED, SENDOUTS 5/1) on: May 02, 2010 07:29:58 PM
14 pounds of yarn?!! Holy cow.  Now I've got serious swap anxiety, mine was 13.8 or somewhere there abouts and it wasn't yarn.  Yikes!  I'm also absolutely giddy and dying to know what 14 pounds of yarn goodies looks like.  I LOVE that it's pratical stuff too.  My mom's always told me I'm boring with my love of pratical gifts.  It's great you ladies understand.

Our pastor was talking about gifts this morning and asked if anyone had ever received practical gifts for birthdays or Christmas..like it was a bad thing!  I LOVE practical stuff!  The occasional bit of frivolity is fun, but you just can't beat having a need met in a gift.  I got a nail art set for Christmas and I haven't even opened it yet (I'm not sure I ever will  Roll Eyes), but the heating blanket from my hubby has gotten tons of use as have all the practical kitchen/bathroom things I've gotten in the last few years.

I'm looking forward to seeing all these packages!  So many good ideas in the gallery from the last round and from this round already!

I have tons of knitted cotton dishcloths but I've never thought of making little ones to use instead of cotton balls!  I'm just about out of the organic cotton cleansing pads I bought ages ago.  One question - has anyone ever used knit/crocheted cotton pads to take off nail polish??  That's probably my main use for them but I'm wondering how the remover would wash out.
43  OCCASIONS AND HOLIDAYS / Baby Showers And Gifts For New Babies / Baby Shower in a Box on: May 01, 2010 06:21:52 PM
I hope it's okay to post this here - I just have to brag on some awesome Craftsters who blessed my socks off by sending me a baby shower in a box to celebrate my soon-to-be-born fourth baby.  The reason I figured I'd post here is because they sent me so many lovely and unique gifts that would all be great gifts for baby showers.  I didn't make any of this so I won't post photos here, but there's a link in my signature to the photos of what they sent me.

As for some of the items, here are some ideas for gifts based on what I received (some of which I've never had before being pregnant with this baby).  Some of these are more typical gifts, but the types of things you can never have enough of.

Appliqued, painted or embroidered onesies and pants
Taggie blankets
Multi-sided sewn cloth balls
Crocheted/knitted balls or blocks with bells sewn in
Hat and bootie sets (one gift I received was two sets in brown and green and a set of flower pins to add in case the baby is a girl - since we don't know what we're having)
Upcycled clothing/blankets sewn into dolls or toys
Burp cloths
Leg warmers made from knee socks or sweater/long sleeve shirt sleeves
Bibs
Wet bags for keeping soiled cloth diapers or wet/dirty clothing in the diaper bag

Anyway, there's lots more..check out the link to the photos - you'll be amazed at the talent of these women!!

From the looks of those teasers, I get the feeling that the Tanza/OGD packages are going to be pretty sweet.  Can't wait to see them!  And all the rest, of course. Cheesy

dreadlocklove---i'm so excited to see what your making! and im really excited for what i sent to get to you....i hope you like it!

Whatever she's making is bound to be great, morglanc!  The package I got from her in the random swap was terrific.  I'm waiting on baby to come so it can wear the tiny little elf hat and booties set she crocheted for it. Smiley

I screwed up on the first swiffer cover I made so I got to keep one. Smiley  It's very functional, just not quite as pretty as I wanted it.

And I am so not into science...I just searched for beaker or something like that in clip art and found that...shrunk one down in paint, designed the text and printed it onto freezer paper. Gotta love freezer paper. Cheesy

Flower - I'm glad it got to you and you like it.  If I hadn't been pregnant, I would have done a bunch of other things..there were so many ideas in my head after looking at your wists and questionairre.

The bag was made from pieces of two of hubby's old shirts (one was a great loss - it said "I am not an object" and was my shirt but I always loved it when he wore it.. Wink but it got some grease stains on it that I couldn't get out. Sad), some thrifted fabric and corduroy pants that I got at the thrift store to use for crafting.  It's the first bag I've done like that so it's not perfect but it should be quite functional. Smiley

I received from my partner!  I probably won't get decent pictures until tomorrow, though.  The package she sent is fabulous and so useful!  Thank you, itchyfingers!

As for me, I'm still chugging away.  I'm moving slower than I had hoped.   Undecided

It only took a week!!  Yay!  I've had packages take weeks to get to the states (or vice versa), so this is awesome.  And a perk-me-up as I'm enduring painful regular contractions that don't seem to be doing anything.  Grrrr....

I was just thinking about you today....and wondering if you had POPPPPPPEEEEDDDDDDD yet

I wish!  I am so over this pregnancy. Wink

well then ....I am sending you lots of contraction/water breaking wishes

Thanks!  I hope they work!

And on a note more related to this swap, may I just say that I'm so glad I've sent and my package was received already? At this point, I just feel like doing the bare minimum around the house and even personal crafting (making myself some lavender sachets for the dryer, for instance) is being put on hold.  I pretty much play solitaire, feed my kids, change a diaper now and then and read.  I'm trying really super hard not to have to do anymore than that. Wink

Sent!  Grin  Here's hoping it doesn't take weeks on end to get to you, Flower!  I did send it air rather than ground so with any luck that will help a bit.
