1  KNITTING / Knitting: Discussion and Questions / Finnish pattern: "Luumuletti" Dress.... Any Finnish speaking knitters out there? on: December 03, 2009 08:18:34 PM
Hey!
Has anyone seen this dress?  Beautiful, isn't it?  I'm going to try to knit it, but I can't read Finnish.  I'm trying to piece together an English translation of this pattern.  I ran it through Google Translation, which helped a little bit, but there are still a lot of areas that I am having trouble figuring out!  Is there anyone out there who can read Finnish who'd like to translate a little bit of it and post it?

This is the URL where you can find it:
http://www.ullaneule.net/0306/ohjeet_luumuletti.html

Thank you for any assistance you can provide.  Smiley

This is a swap for geek message shirts, you know, like you have all seen on websites like thinkgeek.com and jinx.com?  Yes, you know. -nods-  Show your geek pride!

If you decide to join, you will be paired up and will each craft two t-shirts for your partner with their favorite geeky sayings or messages!

You may stencil, silk screen, or iron-on your shirt designs -- which ever you prefer.  Feel free to do a little reconstruction if you like, but this IS a stenciled shirt swap.  Tongue Cheesy

This swap is for two shirts, but if you and your partner agree, you may craft more, or additional small geeky goodies (like a hat or a geeky tie).  Just to clear up, anything beyond two t-shirts is considered extra and must be agreed upon by swap partners -- its only fair! Cheesy

Here are some websites for inspiration:

6  ORGANIZED CRAFT SWAPS / New Swap Theme Ideas / Pet Rat and Mouse Themed Swap? on: April 17, 2006 12:18:37 AM
I'm wondering if anyone would be interested in participating in a pet rat and mouse themed swap?

We could either make items for each other's pets, such as

a mouse pouch/rat bag: http://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=80477.0
a rat hammock http://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=12066.0
a rat igloo http://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=26991.0
or maybe some rat toys like a see-saw

or we could make items for each other with ratties on them/rat themed, such as a cute rat stuffed toy or a nifty rat hat http://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=26677.0.

There are a ton of cute ideas for rattie crafts at the Ratty Corner http://www.rattycorner.com/.

I would love to organize, if there would be anyone else who would like to participate.  Cheesy
Please post if your supporting!  Grin

7  CLOTHING / Clothing: Completed Projects: Reconstructed / ARCHON: black lace back top with puffy DRAGON WINGS, shiny pvc, lightly boned :D on: April 15, 2006 01:56:19 PM
Hello!

Here's a tank top I modified..
I made little stuffed, puffy dragon/bat wings and attached them to the back.
The back has plastic boning to keep shape with laced up.  You can't adjust the lacing on this, because I sewed on the wings, but it was planned this way.

I am not sure what to do with the front to made it as spiffy as the back.  Right now its just a plain, black, tank top.. no real excitement.  Perhaps I will add a couple of D-rings to match the back, maybe reconstruct the straps or add some decorative straps of sorts to the torso..  any ideas?  Maybe it doesn't need anything...

This top with dragon wings was inspired by a sci-fi story a friend came up with.

It's really tricky to sew the PVC fabric.. I used some wax paper over the foot, but then I couldn't really see where I was going and I made some mistakes, which you can't really hide with this type of fabric.  Does anyone have any tips for working with PVC or other sticky-ish fabrics?  I heard about a special foot, but no details.. any tips welcome!  Thankyou!  Cheesy

Comments welcome!
Thanks for looking.  Smiley

8  KNITTING / Knitting: Completed Projects / Little red turtleneck sweater for iPod Nano! (WITH PATTERN) on: March 02, 2006 03:41:17 PM
I made a little red turtleneck sweater for my ipod nano.. the poor thing looked a bit cold..  Smiley

http://img207.imageshack.us/img207/9091/ipodredsweater28kz.jpg

It is inspired by lbdancer123's post: http://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=81628.0
I came up with my own pattern.  I wrote it up as I went along if anyone is interested.  Smiley

platinumrexx

------------

iPod Nano Cabled Turtleneck Sweater Pattern

Size US 4 (3.5 mm) strait needles.
Gauge is about 6 stitches by 8 rows to the inch.
I believe the yarn that I used is Plymouth Encore - Knitting Worsted Weight.
Tapestry needle to sew up the sides.

Body (make 2)
Cast on 15 stitches.
Work in knit 1, purl 1 rib for 6 rows.

Cable Pattern
Row 1: K1 P1 K1 P2 K2 P1 K2 P2 K1 P1 K1
Row 2: P1 K1 P1 K2 P2 K1 P2 K2 P1 K1 P1
Row 3: K1 P1 K1 P2 (Knit the second stitch through the back of the loop, leaving the first stitch on the needle and working around it.  Then knit the first stitch.  Slip both stitches off the needle.) P1 (Knit the second stitch, leaving the first stitch on the needle and working around it.  Then knit the first stitch.  Slip both stitches off the needle.) P2 K1 P1 K1
Row 4: P1 K1 P1 K2 P2 K1 P2 K2 P1 K1 P1

Repeat cable pattern (rows 1-4) a total of 8 times.

Cast off 5 stitches.  Knit 6 stitches, transfer the one stitch you just knitted back onto the needle you just knitted it from.  Then transfer the 5 stitches you already knitted into a holding needle, or such.  Then transfer the 1 stitch you already knitted back onto the right needle from the left needle, and proceed to cast off the remaining 5 stitches.  Then pick the 5 stitches you were holding (that appear to be the neck of the sweater) back up and knit 5 rows in stockinette stitch (k1 row, p1 row).
Cast off remaining stitches.

Arms (make 2)
Cast on 8 stitches.
K1 P1 rib for 4 rows.
Stockinette (k1 row, p1 row) for 30 rows.
Cast off all stitches.

Construction
Sew the sides of the sweater together with the arms in the sides.  Sew up the neck, but not the neck opening.
Please note that when you sew the arms into place, they will naturally curl back onto themselves on the wrong side of the stockinette stitch.

And your finished!  Congratulations!! Cheesy
Now your Nano will be all cozy!  Smiley

If you have any questions or comments, please, dont hesitate to ask!

If you make one, please post a picture of your iPod enjoying it!  I'd love to see!  Cheesy

I enjoyed working on it so much, I've started a little knitted "metal working" experiment.

10  CLOTHING / Clothing: Completed Projects: Reconstructed / grungy skeleton cut out blood splatter.. lace up back tank.. take two! IMG HEAVY on: February 23, 2006 10:27:34 PM
hey fellow craftsters!

here's another grungy, nasty, "blood" splattered skeleton shirt, like my last one (http://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=46203.0).. but worse, hehe.  probably too messy to be main stream, but i like it.  Smiley

like last time, i cut out the pieces of the skeleton in black fabric, glue sticked them on (only temporary so i could sew them, heh heh) and then messed the whole thing up a bit.. red paint and tears and such.  except the brown smudge on the front near the neck line.. that's actually blood... i've gotta be one of the clumsiest craftsters.  ;P

now, as i warned.. image heavy!  Cheesy

heh heh, it's rather difficult to photograph yourself..

comments are welcome!
many thanks for looking!!  Cheesy
