I have two similar store-bought skirts made out of cotton in my closet. I was hoping to make one out of a silky material that I have. Maybe I'm not brave enough.

I want to add a gusseted zipper to a square bag. Is that possible? I'm making something similar to the "Pleatness Bag" and would like for that zipper to not be at the top of the bag so that I can do a fun little tab with a brooch on it.

Looking at my personal store bought bag that is similar, I see that they don't attach the gusset at the ends of the bag. I could do that, but I'm wondering if I did something similar to your tabs at the ends of the zipper, only make the entire width of the gussets and the zipper have a tab and sew that to the end of the lining...if that'd work.

We live in a rental and I want a black/white/gray bedroom. Those were the colors at our wedding and I think they make a timeless statement. Unfortunately, the walls in our house are ALL cream! (except those few spots in the kitchen where the mint green pops through)

So I'm kind of at a loss. I did want to show you what I'm hoping to do on our windows. What did you decide to do?

I would probably have made oversized curtains that go from ceiling to floor on the mid-sized window to help balance the huge-ness of the patio doors. Then maybe to a faux stained glass or even just put up a canopy and hid the clerestory completely.

I'd love to see pictures of the final product!

You could use fusible webbing to make the seams instead of sewing them. That might save you some time and frustration.

I chose to make them out of the duck fabric. The only time I had a problem with the needle was sewing in the zipper. I didn't think it out well and it ended up breaking my needle.

2 appliques done, one purse finished and one purse in the making. The third is waiting for the recipient to make a final selection on her interior fabric.

I just used something like stitch witchery to attach the applique to the bag, then a machine satin stitch to take care of the edges. They look really nice and didn't have a problem with shadowing...maybe because of the fusible webbing?

This is AWESOME!  


I'm gluten-free and have to be very careful about food when out and about. I always carry a purse full of snacks, but I hate the baggies, plus when my 8 year old sees the baggy he wants the food.    I think I'll have to make some of these to keep my G-free snacks in.
