31  SEWING IN GENERAL / Sewing Machines: Discussion and Questions / Re: 1905 White Family Treadle Sewing Machine -- $25 Craig's List find! on: July 06, 2013 10:03:53 AM
Shadowstealer, that's a gorgeous machine!  I would love to see one of those Singers with the Sphynx decals in person.  Super cool.  Where did you get yours?

Mine came with a whole bunch of attachments, like a ruffler foot, etc.  I think there might be some type of attachment in there that does a zig-zag stitch, but I haven't figured it out yet.  I do wish there was a reverse, but aside from that, I am in LOVE.

Thank you!

I just did my first actual project on her.  Just took in a couple of seams on a dress, actually.  What a treat to sew on Meg compared to my electric machine!  No fits and starts from a finicky machine, no humming from the foot pedal.  Just a quiet little "click, click, click" and I was done!

Thanks!  Ooh, that cormo/alpaca blend looks divine.

And Newt??  My goodness -- he is ADORABLE!  I can almost smell the puppy breath from here.  :-)

Hello and Happy Friday!

This week I have a yarn called "Summer Fun", 152 yards spun from a mixed batt from Sue's Luxury Fiber, plied with yellow sewing thread.  There were so many different fun different textures in the batt.  It really woke up my fingers as I was spinning it.  I'm showing it pictured on my new squirrel cage yarn swift I found at a thrift store for $6.99.  Nobody knew what it was!  Of course, I thought it was a lazy kate and used it as such until a visit to the local weaver's guild taught me that it's actually a yarn swift.

Beautiful work!!

Stunning!! I love the magpie yarn best of all. So gorgeous!!!  I also love the ribbon bows in the woodnymph yarn.

Jacey Boggs is the best.  I like Spin Art.  The video is cool because she shows swatches of the yarn knitted up.  I also really like her Sit and Spin video.

I really, really love your bird yarns.

Lark, I am LOVING that suffolk!  I hope you'll post pics of your SAORI weaving too.  I took a SAORI class once, and that is really the style of weaving that appeals to me the most.

Bella, is that a 3 ply yarn?  Looks so squishy and soft!  I admire you for hand carding the wool.  I find that I don't have much patience for hand carding, though to be fair, I've only tried it a couple of times.

By the way, I let my son read the positive comments about his sewing and now he's REALLY over the moon about sewing.  He wants to create his own TV show.  He said it would be called "The Birth of Arts and Crafts" and he's been practicing his introductions for the show.  Funny kid.
