11  Archive of Past Craftster Challenge Entries / CHALLENGE 49 ENTRIES / DD in Veggie Pasta!!! on: April 06, 2010 06:32:46 PM
I decided to try this out.. it's my first challenge and to tell you the truth it isn't very good IMO... I'm more of a pencil/paint and paper kid of gal.. LOL- I decided to use Veggie pasta and crush it...

Here is the original picture:

my inspiration edited pic(by me):

and the "masterpiece":

close up to show it's actually pasta:

MODIFIED TO ADD:

I decided I wanted to add a bit more detail... and I'm not sure if I made it better or ruined it to tell the truth... but here we are:

and I couldn't resist.... THE PROUD RECIPIENT!! (who really loves her portrait even if it isn't the best!!)

12  PAPER CRAFTS, SCRAPBOOKING & ATCs (ARTIST TRADING CARDS) / Paper Crafts: Completed Projects: General / My first attempt at a coffee filter rose!! on: February 22, 2010 09:16:11 PM
Well I've admired the coffee filter roses everyone posts and just had to try my hand at them... especially because I'm considering using them in my wedding (either in the bouquets, centerpieces  or whatever)

I had to paint my rose a "dark" color because the only coffee filters we have/use are the environmentally friendly unbleached ones that are actually beige/brown.

My paint job isn't that great... but that's alright since this was just a trial run anyhow...

on to the pictures:

13  COOKING / Dessert / Zelda sword and shield Birthday cake! on: January 25, 2010 05:58:51 PM
We always have a joint birthday party for my hubby and his sister as their birthdays are a week apart... Hubby's on the 12th and sister's on the 19th.
This is actually last years cake...I already posted this years birthday cakes here:  http://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=335525.0

This one was all on my cousin... because I had never used fondant before... and she uses it quite often...this one is made with a delicious chocolate pudding cake- Skor frosting between the layers- and the sword is made of Rice Crispies then it is all covered in fondant!

we added the scroll/note on the cake board for added effect, and also because she didn't get the shield design right....unfortunetly we didn't have time to fit it so it stayed as it and is missing the "bird"

pictures (again taken in the same "bar" as this years so the lighting isn't the greatest!):

and the Happy birthday and lettering for the names:

14  COOKING / Dessert / Final Fantasy birthday cakes!! on: January 25, 2010 05:45:39 PM
We always have a joint birthday party for my hubby and his sister as their birthdays are a week apart... Hubby's on the 12th and sister's on the 19th.
I was racking my brain trying to think of a mutual interest of theirs... because we did Zelda last year( I should probably post that cake also)... well there both Final fantasy nuts so I decided on that!

Then it was trying to figure out how to make a final fantasy cake that they'd both like... since they both like very different characters. so we decided on old school pixelated characters from the first game!! Then I decided it would be better to make 2 separate cakes since Dh likes chocolate- and sis likes white cake.

so we chose to make sis's cake the white mage (female character and seemed fitting considering we were making her a white cake)- and DH's was going to be the Black mage (male character and chocolate cake)

I have a wonderful cousin who helped me make these!! we even cut out the cakes to make them pixelated also- and added their names to the bottom in the final fantasy font- and their ages in roman numerals.

so without further ado- Pictures!! (sorry they aren't the greatest pictures- they were taken in a "bar" where the lighting isn't the greatest! I wish I had taken
pictures durning the day after we had finished them- but I guess we'll just have to make do with these shots)

Reference picture:

This is the white mage for my sister in law- as you can see she is 20 and her name is "Ace" (actually Sam but ace is her nickname)

This is the black mage for the Hubby- as you can see he is 26 and his name is Chris

and the both of them side by side:

15  CLOTHING / Costumes: Completed Projects / Zombies...Zombies... everywhere... on: October 26, 2009 10:03:30 PM
So On Saturday (October 24th) We had our annual Zombie walk... which is a charity event for the Hamilton Food Share! We of course attended and although I can't really say I made the full costumes I did Zombify them and did the make-up myself also!

My daughter participated in the event also! she's 19 months old currently and this is her second annual Zombie walk as she also participated in last years walk at a mere 7 months old!!
some info on our outfits:
The blood on our outfits consists of 2 different shades of food colouring & a bit of store bought fake blood- my daughters make up is just eye shadow, powdered coverup, lipstick and eye liner- and mine is gelatin, liquid latex, eye shadow (lots of greens), white and black cream paint, and blood (gel and normal)- I wish you could see my complete outfit- I was a "chef" with and apron and a blood covered spatula also, my daughter was just a normal "baby/toddler" zombie. wearing an old pair of stocking, a long sleeved onesie and a thrift store dress -(and a warm sleeper under it all to make sure she stayed toasty warm).

Here we are in all our Zombie glory!!

The walk turned out amazing... we had great weather... it was fairly warm, and we only got a very very light rain (almost not enough to even count as rain) unfortunetly though my daughter wasn't feeling well and we had to leave the walk early... and ended up at the hospital with her to later find out she has H1N1  Cry... so we are now under Quarantine for a few days while she takes the Tamiflu medication. Embarrassed

16  CLOTHING / Costumes: Completed Projects / My Little Moogle!! (Slightly IMG heavy) on: August 31, 2009 09:58:44 PM
So technically this was a Halloween costume(Last years)... but I thought I'd post it here as it is a "cosplay" costume as well! Was intended to be worn to Anime north also (made it big so it would still fit) but unfortunately DD ended up being Ill and we couldn't go!

For my daughters first Halloween (she was 7 months old) I decided she needed a Unique costume that would double as her Con/cosplay outfit also... and decided to make her a Moogle- since I'm a Final Fantasy fanatic. I had a hard time choosing between a Moogle and a Chocobo- but figured the moogle was easier so that's what I decided on.

The costume is made from a white/cream Fleece (micro? I think...) and is made from an altered Simplicity pattern (don't know which pattern off the top of my head though) the wings are also made of fleece and stuffed with batting - and the detailing is stitched. The hat is made from the same fleece as the "jumpsuit/sleeper" and I added a wired tube and attached one of those balls from her ball pit to it to mimic the moogles "pompom".

Now I just need to decide what she should be this Halloween!

anyhow without further ado here it is- DD is of course the model!

A lil' something my hubby made me from the pictures we took of her

Sorry the pics aren't the greatest as they were while we were out on halloween/celebrating at home

Out "trick or treating" (all snug and warm):

17  COOKING / Dessert / HELP- Marshmellow fondant questions on: July 30, 2009 10:17:22 AM
I have a birthday cake to make for my wonderful "neice" for her 6th birthday this sunday- I had originally planned to rent a cake pan form the local BB but unfortunetly they had nothing related to what she asked for her cake to be! BALLERINA theme- so I had this idea to use marshmallow fondant to make a ballerina to sit on top of her cake! But I'm having a few issues finding info about marshmallow fondant figures. So I need help a.s.a.p.

OK... so the Party is Sunday- I don;t have time Saturday as we're extremly busy on saturday and Sunday the Party starts at 1 pm and there is no way I can get it done that quickly.

Q 1. How long in advance can I make the Ballerina figurine to sit on top of the cake?

Q 2. How do I store the ballerina once she is finished?

Q 3. will regular food colouring work to colour the fondant?

Q 4. any other suggestions involving MMF?

Thanks in advance!
18  CLOTHING / Clothing for Kids: Completed Projects / CANADA DAY oufit for DD! on: July 04, 2009 08:03:32 AM
Well first of all I wanted to say Happy Canada Day to all the Canadian members!!

Ok... here goes... Every year they have this huge festival here (It's your festival) for Canada day and every year they have a baby contest! They have 3 age groups and choose a winner from each group and then an overall winner to be named the "Canada Day baby". I entered her last year and just used a cute lil' store bought onsie with a ruffle/skirt attached and she ended up winning 1st place in her age group! So this year I decided to step it up a notch and make her a simple lil' dress (and bloomers) I chose an easy simplicity pattern since I've never read a pattern in my life... I just usually make them up as I go.  (I can't remember the pattern number at the moment, but if any one is interested in it I can find it). It was my first time using a pattern, my first zipper & my first time using bias tape so please be nice... LOL

without further ado...
front (the bloomers are actually longer than this but she was up in my arms and they got pulled up somehow):

back (I know my seams on the yolk are a little off here):

and just cause they're cute:

Oh... I almost forgot!!  She won first place in her age group again this year!!! She lost out on Canada day baby overall to this lil' guy in a canada print tux! I also added the little bows to her shoes! They are store bought red patents with white ribbon and they had a white bow which I removed and added the red and white bows and the lil' foam flags!! We also added the little red rufffle to the bottom of the dress to add a lil' bit extra to it!

C&C welcomed and appreciated!!
19  CLOTHING / Shoes: Discussion and Questions / Need help.... attaching a bow to "leather" shoes? on: June 25, 2009 09:12:33 PM
I bought my 15 mth old daughter these adorable lil' red and white (I'm guessing fake) Leather shoes for canada day and I want to attch the Canada bows I have made onto them-- the bows that were previously on the shoes were sewn on.. but I'm not sure I'll be able to get my hand in these tiny lil' toddler shoes to sew the new bows on-- any suggestions on what I can use or do to attach these to the lil' shoes- she'll be wearing them canada day and will likely be walking around in them for a few hours. Oh I can take a picture of the shoes if need be!
Thanks in advance!!
20  CLOTHING / Clothing for Kids: Completed Projects / a few thing to add to my DD's summer clothing!! on: May 25, 2009 10:11:18 AM
I found this tute here: http://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=305086.0 and decided to make my daughter a pair .. although I didn't use a pillow case, instead I used some old curtain material I had laying around because it was a nice colour and very light weight...only problem I have with these is that I actually made them slightly big for my daughter and didn't have ribbon in my craft box to match... so I intend to either fix them or make her another pair

and I also found this adorable 1/2 shirred fabric at fabricland last time I was there and Just knew it had to become a dress for my DD... although not exactly finished as I've decided to add straps because it just wont stay up on her...
to show how full the "skirt" is:
to show the "straps" I intend to add(made form the bottom of the dress that was cut off to hem):
and to show the true colour since my camera washed out the others:

C&C welcome!!
