1  Mild adventures in mild cleaning products... in Shoes: Completed Projects by box of purls on: July 18, 2007 06:30:22 PM
So I got my favorite pair of shoes really dirty the other weekend and without thinking I began to clean them with a bleach based cleanser.  Halfway through the first shoe I realized that the red dirt was indeed coming out but the fabric was beginning to turn orange.  Well, I thought a few minutes and I came up with a solutions inspired by what I had seen on Crafster, I decided to just dye the whole shoe orange.  I didn't think I could a design of any sort from what I had already done and I sort of like the orange like it is and I'm not sure I'm going to go back and do the tongue of the shoe after all.  I think the navy blue tongue gives it character, don't you think?   Pictures below to enjoy.

2  Re: New Knitty's Calorimetry in Knitalongs by box of purls on: January 05, 2007 07:09:11 PM
I finished mine last Monday night I think and I have pictures!  I was going to do mine in Mission Falls but not only did I run out of yarn but I began to detest the color of the yarn so, I did it in Woolease in this red instead.  I think I cast on 96 stitches on size 9 needles which would be 5.5 mm (right?)  I cast off in pattern to give it the stretch and it's become habit.  So please excuse the extreme close up and the clothes hanging in the background.

3  Re: The Young Ones Swap Gallery! in The Swap Gallery by box of purls on: July 05, 2006 06:11:30 PM
I received a great package from doubleplus good today.  Which was great because I was having a bad kind of day with people just walking up to me and telling me I was smelly and all.  Anyway.

Everything all together.  I received a t-shirt, a decoupaged box with my own row of vegetables, a monopoly card complete with directions to 'smash Rik over the head with the bank"  my very own SPG (i'm thinking he might go to work with me....to the bank), and a recipe for gross hippie food...lentil casserole.

Closeup of the box

Close up of the veg and box

My SPG.  Smiley

A close up of the inside of the box with the veg and you can see the monopoly card and pictures of Vyvyan.  sigh.

And another picture of everything.  I'm going to put all of my stuff in a box now...and hope that doubleplusgood doesn't think I'm a horrible swap partner when she receives hers.  :-/  Thanks so much again doubleplus good and thanks for organizing tattooeddork.

7  Tri-Aran-Angle Shawl from Knitty in Knitting: Completed Projects by box of purls on: January 22, 2006 01:26:30 PM
I finished this back in the summer.  It took about a month but I learned cables which was great and fun.

And a close up.

I know it's hard to see the cables because of the yarn but if you look really close or squint and turn your head sideways they are there.

This is my first time to post pictures.  We found the cord for my sister's digitcal camera so here goes.  I made this for my best friend's baby.

you'd probably get a better idea of how cute it was if it was on a head.

9  Re: How would you make this hat from Elizabethtown? in Knitting: Discussion and Questions by box of purls on: October 22, 2005 08:48:41 PM
looks like it!!  just substitute a cable pattern instead of the purse stitch and you've got it.  I just bought some LB microspun to try this out today.
I plan on doing a p1,k1,p1,k1,p1 rib then a 4 or 6 stitch cable.  We'll see!  Wish me luck  Kiss

Its kinda funny that this hat  is from spiderman 2... very similar to the Elizabethtown hat.  Does she have it in her contract that she must be able to wear a "pithy hat" in all of her movies or what??

too funny, I was trying to figure out why I was suddenly getting all these hits from craftster!!  I think my pithy hat pattern would work, but instead of the purse stitch, substitute with p1, k1, p1, k1, p1 (ribbing with purls next to the cable so it stands out) and a 3 stitch cable so that it fits into the 72 stitches Smiley

And I'm jealous of how good she looks in hats like this.  I love them and they make my head look like someone plopped a bowling ball cover on top of it :p

Theresa

okay...do you mean 72 stitches after the increases or 72 stitches excluding the ones being done into a cable (don't know how else to word it)?  I don't think what I have figured out is really working so I think I'm going to go with smaller needles and your instructions.
