1  Halloween / Halloween Costumes / Flower Bird Mask on: October 18, 2011 08:28:18 PM

In my head, it's unacceptable for me to re-use a single costume for different Halloween events in the same year.  Thus, the flower bird mask was born (inspired by this and this).  Bolstered by this tutorial, I set out with plastic bottle and papier mache (note: whole wheat flour does not a good glue make).  Finishing touches were added with paint, flowers, ribbon, and seed beads.  Total cost: 3.99 (needed the beads and flowers, everything else on hand)

edit: fixed coding (I hope!)
2  QUILTING / Quilting: Completed Projects / First (pseudo) quilt on: August 09, 2011 10:23:19 PM

I recently aquired several totes of quilting fabric and tools from a relative whose eyesight is not what it used to be.  She said she could no longer match up corners, and therefore did not want to quilt anymore.  Even with my relatively decent vision, I seem to lack the ability to do the same, but I'm not letting that stop me.  In an attempt to make a dent in the ol' fabric stash, I made a quilt (if you can call it that?) for my partner's birthday.  Using  this as my inspiration, the following was produced:

I lined the back with a shark fleece I picked up as a. the partner likes sharks, and b. the idea of lining up batting and the back fabric was daunting.

(the kitty is supervisor; without him, no photos or crafts would ever be produced)
