I think it looks awesome even without a second layer.  I love the poofiness of it (and really, everything else about it and really want to make one)

I love the contrasting colors and the bold lines of the dresses.  Super hot!
I think the only thing I would change would be on the second dress (and really, it might just be how it looks on the dress form), and that is to make a more drastic difference in length between the two white panel pieces on the bodice.  These dresses are awesome in their geometric-ness, and I feel this should be played up (if that makes any sense)

Adorable!  The colors go so well together. 
I'd also like to see an action shot.  How do the ears hang when the hoodie is up? (and it'd be cute to add wires so the ears can be shaped...but somehow I think that'd be more trouble than it's worth)

First, the mugs are super cute!

And second, about the food safety aspect, I found a blog entry that discusses it here.  It appears that it is more of an issue with the possibility of cracking and such.
