1  TOYS, DOLLS AND PLAYTHINGS / Toys, Dolls and Playthings: Completed Projects / Minimolt, World of Warcraft Gnome. on: October 08, 2009 05:10:56 PM
My dear friend Angela has long admired my crafty creations so I decided to make her something extra special for her birthday this year.  A cloth doll reproduction of her World of Warcraft gnome warlock was the result.  I had so much fun making this little lady, who stands 33cm tall.  Even though getting her busty body shape right was such a pain!

She is double skinned (cotton sheeting covered with doll skin) with a hand painted faceup.  Her jewelry and staff were constructed out of junk jewerly I picked up from a market stall.  her robe was a cloth lucky find at a wool store, the large piece of material only costing me two dollars and turned out to be just perfect for this lady. I was going to give her slippers but I decided I loved her toes too much to cover them.

Minimolt complete.

Minus her coat.
2  TOYS, DOLLS AND PLAYTHINGS / Toys, Dolls and Playthings: Completed Projects / Re: New member. Boy Doll, Rudie. on: April 10, 2009 07:27:02 PM
Thanks everyone, from Rudie and me.  He's terribly flattered (I think he's even blushing.)

Heather... his nose is made by using a pipe cleaner to stiffen the bridge of his nose under the cotton underskin and sewing two tiny white pompoms (the littlest ones you can buy) on either side on the outside of the white cotton face for the noasal flares and then needle sculpting over them through the flesh tone jersey skin.  The nose comes out absolutely rock solid, holding it shape perfectly.

Aethelberga...  Found the yarn I used for his hair... its Moda Vera 'Burano'.  It's an eyelash yarn with VERY long eyelash fibres... over an inch and a half.  It is SUPER SUPER SOFT!!!!  A 100% polyamide/nylon.  Made in Italy.  It comes in 6 or 7 colours stocked at Spotlight (my local craft and home decorating supermarket).  All of them have a smokey cast to the colour  so the black is actually a very nice charcoal.  Theres a smokey blue, a smokey reddish brown (pinkish like, not orange), smokey green, sort of dark peppermint.  A smokey purplish brown and the tan which Rudie.  His colour number is 1135.

Hope that helps.

The fur you chose is gorgeous Smiley.  I have something a bit similar, but it's tan with this wierd green under coat.  looks great on top but you can't trim it without seeing the toxic green. (No good for heads Sad unless i make the muzzles out of a different fur fabric.)

Thanks for the link, I'll go check it out.

I love the pirate skullbone pattern on her parker hood Smiley.  Don't know who Coraline is but she is one very sweet looking doll.

7  TOYS, DOLLS AND PLAYTHINGS / Toys, Dolls and Playthings: Completed Projects / New member. Boy Doll, Rudie. on: April 10, 2009 02:37:05 AM
Hi everyone, I'm Chaypeta from Victoria, Australia.

I've think I've lurked here enough.  It's time to show you what I've made.

Firstly I'd like to introduce you to my writing and dollmaking muse Roland, known to his mates as 'Rudie'.

Rudie is a marine biology student in his second year at the Deakin University Warnabool campus. He is a quiet, relaxed chap who loves camping, bush walking, scuba diving and surfing. He does voluntary work for several wildlife organisations and is a vegetarian.  He also is an avid Sci Fi fan ands makes a mean lentil curry.

Here he is enjoying the warm evening sun in my front garden.

Rudie is an original boy doll designed by myself. I set about designing a tall, lanky doll pattern and, after several revisions, pretty much got him spot on.  His jeans and knitted pullover are also designed by me on the fly. Luckily I wrote down and sketched everything I did so I can make more. He is double skinned (white cotton fabric doll with a skin of flesh toned jersey stretched over it to minimise seamage show. He is also anatomically correct for a boy... I can't call a boy doll a boy unless it's complete Smiley.  He is way too modest to pose in the nude though, sorry.  His face up was done with gel pens. His hair is a very fine, soft eyelash yarn from Italy (can't remember the name but doesn't it look good Smiley. ) He stands 50cm tall. Rudie is the second complete doll I've ever made and he remains my favourite... never to be sold on. He tends to be where ever I am, watching over me as I work. I'm extremely fond of him.

I don't know, I rather like the stiching on the wings... it looks sort of feathery.  the face is so cute.  I can't see the cup cake very well cause of the fuzziness.  But what i can make out looks good.
