41  Archive of Past Craftster Challenge Entries / CHALLENGE 74 ENTRIES / Literal "Rock, Paper, Scissors" Necklace! on: May 07, 2012 10:02:57 PM
A while ago, I came across a really neat necklace on one of the craft sites I visit (I think it was craftgawker.com), I fell in love with it and saved the picture on my phone with the intent of someday making my own.  A few months later, this Craftster challenge came up presenting the perfect opportunity for me to find the time to make the necklace!  The necklace fit this challenge perfectly because it is a literal "Rock, Paper, Scissors" necklace Smiley.

The paper is from an old book, so it already had the aged coloring, plus the paper was WAY thicker than any paper used in current books!  I put a thin layer of some paper sealant on it to strengthen and seal it.  I found the pebble in my backyard and was going to drill a hole in it, but none of the local hardware stores carry diamond tip bits.  The scissors were the hardest part of the project - none of the craft stores in the surrounding area carried scissors charms.  Just when I was about to hang my head in despair, I found a jewelry cart in the mall that had exactly what I was looking for!  I know my pictures aren't the greatest quality, but hopefully they work okay.

The necklace:

I hope you all like it, I definitely enjoyed making it and am pleased with the final outcome!

What a bittersweet post...I received my last bookmark!  Pincushion_Queen took two of my favorites - "Jane Eyre" and text - and combined them!  I'm not exactly sure how she managed to laminate just the individual letters, but I love it!  Thank you Pincushion_Queen!!

I received a wonderful package from Karwash!  I picked it up at the post office then stopped by the gas station.  I was so excited I couldn't wait...so I tore into it at the gas station.  LOL, I was grinning ear to ear  Grin.

She made me this great hat that will keep me warm (I hate being cold!)  She included this fabric that used to be her great grandmother's, I'm going to figure out something special to use it for.  She also included some sea salt and caramel chocolates!

I love, love, LOVE Doctor Who.  She made me these Peanuts inspired Doctor Who shoes, they have the Doctor, Amy, and Rory on them!  Karwash, you did a great job on these, I love them!

Everything was packed in this beautiful box.  This is the exact kind of box I would pin on pinterest.  I don't think I mentioned it on my questionnaire, but I'm in love with boxes.  Plus, I really like trees - my favorite thing is the heart with my husband's and my initials!  To top it all off, she created my favorite effect (the use of text) for the box interior...just when I thought it couldn't get any better, I looked closer and saw that she used one of my favorite books (Pride and Prejudice) for the text!

Thank you SO much Karwash, I really appreciate your attention to detail!

I received from kwality570 and gozer  Grin.

I love how Kwality combined my love of text with the butterflies for this bookmark.  Each butterfly is like a little window of text!

I had written that I like steampunk and Gozer did the most ingenious thing, she combined steampunk with pinup!  It's something I never would have thought of and I absolutely love the result!

It has itty bitty gears attached to it as well!

Thank you both so much!

I received from WideEyedLife yesterday!  I am floored by her teeny tiny bookbinding skills.  She made a ribbon bookmark with an actual tiny handmade book that hangs below!

She also included this extra!

See how small it is!?

The little book even had its own ribbon bookmark!

Thank you so much WideEyedLife!

Only one more day until send outs and I still have a bit left to do!  I'll have it all done and in the mail by tomorrow though.

I figured, I'd give Karwash a little teaser while she waits for the package... Below is a list of Karwash's facts that I applied to my crafts!  Grin

10. My favorite musical is Avenue Q.
21. My favorites colors are grey, purple, and green.

I guess the purple cow laminator was about worth $10, but don't spend any more on it... I am going to have to rethink all of my bookmarks now, my great plan is not working. Cry
Has anyone used mod podge to seal their bookmarks? I'm worried that it will become tacky and ruin books. I know it's a bit late to be asking...
I've used mod podge on a bookmark in the past. It worked really well and I still use the bookmark.

I think I am going to do the food box deal too. I got ready to package the ones I have done and realized I hadn't thought that far ahead!  Embarrassed  Thanksfully I was reading the board! Thanks! And as I was pulling them in groups to package I got an idea for another one. Hmmm. I think it HAS to get done too. Grrr. Okay, one more and then I am sending. Monday at the absolute latest. I have to cut myself off.

Woohoo, I'm so excited to see what you've come up with!

I plan on doing all 4 bookmarks this weekend...

This was my favorite swap. I'd love to do a full size Doctor swap!

I went over to my Mom's yesterday to work on this swap. Things went wrong every time I even thought of using the sewing or embroidery machines. Thank goodness my mom was there, she's amazing and was able to help me out a lot. I chose a certain craft that I thought would be easy, but as I'm finding out, anything involving any amount of sewing will end up be much more difficult than I ever anticipated!  I'm in serious need of a 'How To Fix Every Problem You'll Ever Encounter With A Sewing Machine' book!

I was able to get a little bit done, but definitely didn't finish as much as I'd hoped
