1  CLOTHING / Clothing: Discussion and Questions / Natural rubber elastic? on: February 15, 2011 01:47:58 PM
Hi!
I was wondering if anyone here knows where I could buy elastic made from natural rubber and some sort of natural fiber like organic cotton?  Thanks Smiley

Congrats on losing so much weight--you look fabulous in your photos!  Love the clothes! : )
I adore your thread title--that describes perfectly how I feel about clothing as well, and is why I am learning how to make my own clothes too.
3  FIBER ARTS / Felting: Discussion and Questions / How much roving is needed to wet felt mittens? on: October 25, 2010 05:20:26 PM
I can't seem to find the answer anywhere online!  Huh Huh Huh If it helps, I am using alpaca roving and do have a scale that measures things in grams, and my hands are average sized but I will be making the cuffs a little longer than normal.  Thanks!

So, I recently aquired a bag full of beautiful auburn alpaca fiber.  It has a few bits of hay and stuff stuck in it here and there, but nothing that can't be easily removed by hand.  Otherwise, it is quite clean.  Do I have to comb (or card?  if that is the right term?) it before I use it for felting?  There are some longer hairs in it, that I guess are called "guard hairs" I guess?  Do I need to remove these?  I am planning to use it to maka felt beret style hat.
thanks in advance!  I'm kind of a felting newbie ~_^
6  CRAFTY BUSINESS ADVICE / Selling Crafts on Etsy.com / Re: How long should I expect for a sale? on: September 11, 2010 03:01:46 PM
Yeah, I was kind of wondering about this myself...I've had my shop open for a couple of months, and have a facebook page for it (but the only people who know about that are my friends and family and they know about my art already!! :S ).  I've gotten up to about 150 views on a couple items, but no sales yet Sad  I am doing my best to network, but that is definitly not my strong suit!  I'm more of the quiet artsy type, if you know what I mean Tongue  I do realize my items kind of cater to a very niche market (they are sort of eclectic!) so maybe that has something to do with it.  Any suggestions for other places to network besides here, facebook, and the etsy forums would be welcome!  I think if I knew of any body-mod type websites to post on that might help, since that is the type of jewelry I mainly have listed now.
7  CRAFTY BUSINESS ADVICE / Selling Crafts on Etsy.com / Re: Is this an OK banner? on: September 11, 2010 02:57:19 PM
I've just made an etsy, and haven't put anything in there yet. i really want to have everything ready and up to par for when I start posting things.

I just made this one in Pages, and am downloading the photoshop elements trial to see if I like it (this coming from a graphics major who didn't graduate...i have forgotten nearly everything I learned!) and then I'm going to make it a little "cleaner", so that I can actually use it as a banner without having to take a screenshot of it  Roll Eyes

I'm also looking for a way to make a little "logo" out of part of it to put on business cards. Any ideas?

Ooo I really like your banner!  Cool design idea!

What do you all think of my banner?  Does it give you the vibe I am going for {artsy, earthy, organic, nature...}

My etsy store is UrthForged
http://www.etsy.com/shop/UrthForged
I sell artisan, hand made, one of a kind jewelry made from organic materials.
Right now I have 2 gauge, 6 gauge, and traditional sized earrings in stock.
Eventually I plan to expand on to pendants, bangles, and some felted items like scarfs.
I <3 etsy!  Ever since I (recently!) opened my store, I have discovered SO many talented artists, and I love that I can buy so many things direct from sellers there (like my makeup, candles, clothing, jewelry components...)
