1  Re: Show me your Christmas tree! in Winter Holidays by theambermay on: December 10, 2009 03:33:08 PM
So this is my last year at home with my parents. I am getting married next month and moving to Texas. So my parents decided it was important to have a tree to make it 'special. I didn't get too great of pictures, but this is it in two different shots. One with the main lights on and the other just the tree illuminated.

My mother has an obsession with snowmen. So the tree is COVERED with blue and white snowmen, blue bulbs and silver snowflakes. <The snowflakes were my idea because I got them from Target in packs of four for a dollar. Deal? I think so!!>

Not fancy, but eh, who is going to see it anyways?! Haha

2  first ever, scrapbook in Paper Crafts: Completed Projects: General by theambermay on: July 21, 2009 08:29:10 PM
I have always been intrigued with scrapbooking. Some people have talent, others <myself> do not. But I decided to give it a shot anyways. I had a lot of stuff laying around my room that I have been wanting to do something with, so this here is my attempt. I have only done 10 pages so far, it will be a work-in-progress since the boyfriend I never get to see. Especially now that he is in 'the armpit'. Anyways, here are a few of my lame attempts of immortalizing some of 'us'.. .. ..

this is my second page, the abbreviations are locations either of us have lived during our relationship. He in Texas and Iraq. Myself Florida. Both of us, the USA and PA more directly. the *TL is supposed to stand for True Love.

this picture was taken by my man at 3am while we were waiting for his flight to come in so he could head back to Iraq. and the 'love and a 45 record' was a scrap from a magazine i got 6 years ago and we both used as a bookmark.

warren took these two on our trip to hershey this past May. he picks on me because i have a very serious, determined look on my face when i drive. the second is him also picking on me because i have MAD road rage. the speed limit was 70, and this guy was only going 75 IN THE FAST LANE!! road rage, its real bad.

this is one of my favorites. i love him because he is a hardcore nerd <sorry bunny> but is a manly man when he needs to be. but he is also a major goon when necessary!

as i said this is my first attempt. comments and critiques, more than welcomed. THANKS

3  military toiletry bag in Purses, Bags, Wallets: Completed Projects: General by theambermay on: July 14, 2009 09:21:43 PM
for starters, i have been in a long distance relationship for the past two and a half years. and when the boyfriend comes to visit, he throws all his toiletries in plastic shopping bags. it saddens me to. so after some pleading, on my part, i finally convinced the boyfriend to let me make him something a little more. . . sturdy. and all it took was six months in Iraq!

this is my first post-worthy item i think i have constructed, so please mind the roughness of this post.

my first step was to gather the materials i thought would work in making something er, manly enough for a military man. and to figure out how to make this all work, when the machine i have to work with is a vintage 1967 kenmore sewing machine. <i dont have any before or during construction, but i did take some afters> well, after making some different patterns and designs, a few too many pin pricks, two coats of water repellent <because even the desert can get crap weather> and a rough stencil of his name later. this is what i ended up with.

the buckle/strap goes around for extra durability but doubles as the 'manly' handle

a small pocket on the side, currently holding his new nail clippers

well, my sewing machine only has two options for stitching, zig zag and running, PLUS it doesnt have a proper pressing foot for applying a zipper. so i had to come up with another way to keep this closed, i made a flap that snaps shut over it, mostly to protect the zipper from the desert weather.

the bag may seem small, but this is everything i am sending him that fits in there. and there is still room to spare.

the stenciling job got a little hairy because i kept using too much paint. so it got splotchy in certain spots, the W and the second N. oo well, what else do you want for home crafting.

though i am not completely satisfied with how it turned out. all it needs is to last him his last six months in Iraq.

hope he enjoys it. C & C, please!
